The role of Chief Mechanical Engineer is to work as part of the GBP (Grinding, Bulk & Pyro) global product engineering team supporting pyro products and projects. You will support product development and project execution with specification, design, installation, and commissioning of industrial equipment across a range of industrial pyro processing applications.
The successful candidate must be proactive and able to demonstrate the ability to work independently, but also in a team orientated environment. Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Degree or higher-level qualification in Mechanical Engineering or relevant similar discipline. Applicants with significant experience, with the required skills, will also be considered.
- Demonstrable experience of engineering design within the mining, minerals, or similar industrial environment.
- Extensive knowledge and experience with Pyro processing equipment for applications including petroleum coke, iron ore, lithium, and lime.
- Experience leading engineering teams and mentoring junior engineers within the global team.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare design ideas and solutions for mechanical equipment.
- Review and approve engineering design calculations for sizing and design of equipment.
- Review and approve mechanical drawings for manufacture and installation of mechanical equipment.
- Review and approve project specifications and data sheets for package equipment.
- Review and approve quality plans and equipment ITPs.
- Review and approve functional design specifications for package control/safety systems.
- Review and approve technical IOM (installation, operation and maintenance) manuals.
- Technical evaluation of supplier proposals.
- Resolve non-conformances and manufacturer deviation requests.
- Investigate mechanical problems and propose corrective actions and repair procedures.
- Provide technical support to Field Service Engineers
- Document and drawing management using EDM/PDM (Engineering/Product Data Management) system.
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & ATTRIBUTES
- Extensive knowledge of equipment and machines for pyro processing applications.
- Theoretical and practical Mechanical Engineering design and manufacturing knowledge
- Able to apply engineering design specifications, company policies, and international codes and standards to engineering design activities.
- Strong knowledge of using 2D and 3D CAD software, preferably with Autodesk Inventor.
- Experience with FEA modelling would be an advantage.
- Committed to working safely in all aspect of the business delivery.
- Competent problem solver with sound understanding of engineering principles.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the organization, and externally with suppliers and end users.
- Ability to organize, prioritise tasks of others in a dynamic multi-project environment.
- Able to lead and be an effective team member.
- Willingness to travel internationally to support project and business needs (typically 2-4 times per year).
- Understanding the need for confidentiality when dealing with both internal and external information, and company intellectual property.
- Flexibility to work outside standard hours when necessary to achieve objectives.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.
