Camp KangaZoo is an outdoor day camp (four days and one evening) at the Zoo for children entering 1st – 6th grade, and our Teen Camp is for youth entering 7th-9th grade (four days and one overnight.) The Camp KangaZoo Office Assistant would be responsible for helping the camp directors with the office administration parts of camp. At Camp, we care for children from diverse backgrounds, foster appreciation for animals, increase understanding of animals and conservation topics, and inspire conservation action, in a fun and active camp environment at the Zoo. We are looking for a team member who is organized, has a high attention to detail, is a strong communicator, and can provide excellent customer service to everyone we serve at camp.
Duties Include:
- Organizing campers into groups, making camper nametags, organizing t-shirts
- Organizing weekly camper information and health and medical forms, maintaining confidentiality of camper health information
- Organizing and communicating health information so it is easily accessible for Camp staff
- Creating and printing all of the necessary paperwork for Camp, rosters, sign-out sheets, phone lists, email lists, etc.
- Maintaining purchase records, staff training records or other records as needed
- Notifying and doing any following up with scholarship recipients during camp
- Creating a post-camp scholarship report using evaluation data and photos
- Answering Camp phone, radio calls
- Calling and emailing camper parents for information
- Helping to monitor supplies and put away deliveries
- Helping to prepare camper snacks
- Helping with camper check in
- Helping to administer first aid as needed
- Modeling good conservation behavior (recycling, etc.)
- General assistance to the Camp director and the functioning of Camp KangaZoo and Teen Camp
Work Hours and Schedule:
- For the first few weeks of April and May the Camp Office Assistant would work around 20 hours a week to learn the position and start administrative tasks. The days and times are flexible during this timeframe.
- Starting the week of May 13th the Camp Office Assistant would work 40 hours a week through the week that ends in August 9th doing camp preparation and administration tasks. During these weeks they will work the hours of camp which is Monday-Thursday 7:00am-4:00pm and a half day on Friday.
- The remainder of August the Office Assistant would work around 20 hours a week until they complete the office clean up and final camp report. The days and times are flexible during this timeframe.
Qualifications:
- Must possess excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
- Must possess excellent customer service, organization, and communication skills, and exemplify the Zoo’s values, as well as the Youth Programs Unit values of Initiative, Self-awareness, Teamwork, Eco-consciousness, Positivity, Understanding, and Professionalism (I STEP UP.)
- Must be flexible and be able to work efficiently and effectively in a high-energy and ever-changing environment.
- Must be willing and able to work outside daily in hot, humid, sunny, or rainy summer conditions, and walk/move around the Zoo up to 2-3 miles per day, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be courteous and patient with children and adults of diverse ages and abilities.
- Experience working in an environment with children age 7 – 14
- Interest in biology/ecology/animals/ conservation helpful
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 products, including Word, Excel, and Teams.
- Must be trained or willing to be trained in First Aid, CPR, AED, Epi-Pen administration and Child Protect Protocols
- Must have Hep A vaccination and submit to a background check and drug test.
