Job DescriptionTitle: Automation Engineer
Reports to: Director of Automation
Job Description/Purpose: Designing solutions to ensure quality and stability of automation systems through future expansions, replacements, or upgrades that directly impact all aspects of safety, quality, delivery, cost, innovation, and growth efforts.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Provides objective, functional and cost analysis on automation projects.
- Provides support on all phases of automation projects to assure adequate equipment, machine capacity and labor.
- Provide support for regulatory inspections, production audits and other validation activities of automated equipment.
- Provide support to maintenance and technical departments as needed to minimize production downtime.
- Provide training support to technical staff for new automated equipment.
- Provide automation support on various shifts and remote off-hour coverage support for trouble calls, including remotely located plants.
- Responsible for trouble-shooting challenging equipment/automation issues to improve manufacturing performance (yield, cycle time, reliability, etc.) and maintaining the automation systems in compliance with all applicable manufacturing standards.
- Responsible for programming automated system equipment including PLC's, HMI's, Robots, CNC, and AGVs.
- Responsible for process documentation of automated systems including system parameters, operation procedures, BOM, safety acceptance and supporting automated machine drawings.
- Responsible for electrical and mechanical trouble shooting of new automated systems and improved processes.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned by Director of Automation.
- Follow all OSHA and internal safety standards.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Systems, Computer Science, Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or related discipline.
- Minimum of five (5) years working in a manufacturing industry supporting automation systems environment as a technical operations and/or automation engineer focused on troubleshooting of process and automation issues and bottlenecks.
- Experience with Allen Bradley, Omron PLC's, HMI's, Fanuc, ABB and UR robot programming.
- Experience with standard shop measuring tools and hand tools required.
- Exceptional attendance record required.
- Experience operating metal stamping presses preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
- Ability to perform standard shop computations (basic math).
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and standard work instructions.
- Ability to perform basic maintenance of equipment.
- Ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Self-directed/organized, strong work ethic, positive attitude, works well in teams, customer focused and accountable for actions.
- Must be willing and able to travel ~25% of time.
