Job Description
An Associate Theatre Manager assists the Theatre Manager as one of the faces of Nederlander Producing Company of America, Inc. at their theatre. They are responsible for the day-to-day operation and long-term care of the building and serve as the primary hub for communication between Nederlander and the production residing in the theater. Associate Managers will have a solid understanding of the relationships involved in the Broadway industry, including labor unions, producing entities, theater owners, and other participants.
This role is an essential part of our team in fulfilling our mission to create a magical Broadway theatre experience for both patrons and producers. Job duties include providing exemplary customer service to patrons and productions in the theatre, administration of payroll and finance, oversight of facility maintenance, ensuring the safety and security of the patrons and facility, and managing special events within the building when applicable.
You will be leading a high-energy, detail-focused team that plays a central role in keeping a Broadway theatre running smoothly. You will foster a collaborative, respectful, and driven staff to provide a customer-service forward approach and instill lifelong memories that strengthen our Broadway fan base.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
You will be expected to:
- Spend significant non-performance time in the theatre each week to handle administrative aspects of running the facility and business.
- Monitor and coordinate life safety, security, and operational systems in the theatre through daily building walkthroughs and maintenance of the FDNY Fire Log.
- Manage a diverse staff of approximately 50-100 employees, including scheduling, discipline, and staff morale.
- Provide exceptional customer service to both patrons and producers.
- Execute accurate weekly payrolls (thorough knowledge and application of all union contracts, accounting processes, new hire documentation, etc).
- Meet regularly with Operation/Facilities and Labor departments for support in managing the theatre.
- Assist Operations, Facilities, and Labor Departments at Nederlander with Customer/Patron Services, Production Relations, Administration, Labor Relations, Facilities, Safety and Security, and Special Events.
- Maintain membership in good standing in ATPAM (The Association of Theatrical Press Agents and Managers).
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate(s) will be personable, have superior administrative and organizational skills, a high attention to detail, and a willingness to learn with a dedication to Theatre House Management as a career path.
- Highly organized and efficient
- Administrative skills, including proficiency in MS packages (Word, Excel & Outlook)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent time management, interpersonal, and multi-tasking skills
- Must act with integrity, and observe and practice confidentiality at all times
- A positive, enthusiastic, and flexible attitude
- Day/evening and/or weekend hours will be required to satisfy show/production schedules
- Successful candidates will possess or commit to acquiring the following certifications from the FDNY: F-03 (Indoor Place of Assembly), F-07 (Fire Drill Coordinator), and F-53 (Emergency One-Way Voice Announcer).
- Previous customer service management experience preferred.
- Previous customer service experience required.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- This position is a Union position. Applicant will be expected to be a member of or join ATPAM
- Ability to work evenings and/or weekends will be required
- This position will be in a professional, fast-paced theatre environment
- This position may take you off-site, to other Company properties/theatres for coverage as may be needed
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties related to this job, the employee is regularly required to have visual acuity, speak, and listen while communicating with executives and other staff members. This position requires sitting, standing, bending, and walking. The employee may occasionally be asked to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds.

- Front of House Staff to include: Custodians, Ushers, Lobby Staff, and Treasurers
- Back of House Staff to include: Carpenters, Electricians, Properties Persons, Engineers, and Stage Doorpersons

NEDERLANDER PRODUCING COMPANY OF AMERICA OFFERS
ATPAM Standard Individual Contract of Employment.
Pay and Union benefits per the League-ATPAM Collective Bargaining Agreement. Anticipated weekly salary $1,846.88. Other rates may occasionally be incurred.
