Disney Theatrical Group seeks an Assistant Theater Manager for our New Amsterdam Theater. As the Assistant Theater Manager, you will work closely with the Senior Theater Manager to supervise all operations and provide direction to the New Amsterdam Theater staff during performances and any special events.


Responsibilities to include, but not limited to:


  • In support of the Senior Theatre Manager, responsible for the entire operation of the New Amsterdam Theatre including but not limited to the following:

  • Oversee the daily operation of the New Amsterdam Theater staff including ushers, ticket takers, floor directors, engineering staff, matrons, porters and all cleaning personnel.

  • Plan for and ensure that all personnel, facilities and materials are in complete readiness for daily operation.

  • Partner with the Senior Theater Manager to manage the staffing level by ensuring appropriate staffing utilization, par staffing levels and appropriate manpower to run an efficient operation.

  • Responsible for the development of theater staff: training, coaching, progressive discipline, counsel, and mentoring to increase guest & team member satisfaction.

  • Accurately process weekly payroll for guest services employees, ensuring compliance with relevant Union rules for usher staff.

  • Develop, conduct, and maintain new hire orientation presentation and training for all new team members.

  • Manage partnership with all vendors and suppliers of hospitality services.

  • Project manage the development and/or implementation of new hospitality items in partnership with Disney Parks with a focus on brand continuity.

  • Partner with Disney Corporate Security to monitor the ever changing 41st and 42nd Streets to ensure a safe and organized Guest and Cast Member arrival and departure experience.

  • In consultation with NYPD and Studio Corporate Security, responsible for theatre’s evacuation in case of emergency. Maintain compliance with safety and security protocols at all times.

  • Liaise with external partners, including but not limited to the New York City Mayor’s office, landmarks commission, NYPD, NYFD, Times Square Alliance, The Broadway League, etc.

  • In conjunction with Chief Engineer and Disney Corporate Services, responsible for budgeting, scheduling, and overseeing all repairs, improvements, and maintenance for the New Amsterdam Theatre as required by the City of New York and Empire State Development.

  • Project Manage all New Amsterdam Special Events (5-6 major events per year, on average) from initial booking through final completion, including scheduling Local One staff, House Managing the event, invoicing vendors, and creating a comprehensive P&L statement post event.

  • Responsible for answering Guest Services inquiries and complaints promptly, effectively, and empathetically through various channels including by phone, email, and in-person.

  • Create detailed reports on each performance, including House Reports and Incident/Accident Reports.

  • Manage and record all Floor Director Reports.

  • Process benefit payments to Local 306 and Local 751.

  • Oversee and manage all special dignitary visits and backstage tours.

  • Oversee uniforms for staff and project manage all necessary uniform design updates, keeping in mind both the Disney Brand and the distinct design of the New Amsterdam Theatre.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • 5+ years of proven management experience working in large venue operations

  • Candidates must have proven management skill in supervising a union theatre staff. Including hiring and training of new staff as well as progressive discipline and evaluation for promotions.

  • Experience in people management, planning, fostering teamwork and providing feedback is imperative for this role.

  • Detail oriented with excellent communication, organization and conflict resolution skills.

  • Excellent ability to manage with a leveled and confident approach at all times.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the theater and/or the entertainment industry preferred.

  • Passion for historic theatre preservation and NYC history a plus.

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, theater, history, or business administration also a plus

The hiring range for this position in New York is $70,283.10 - $90,954.60 per year based on a 40 hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
