University of Washington College of Arts & Sciences, Clean Energy Institute has an outstanding opportunity for an Associate Director of Development.This is a full-time permanent position.
University Advancement creates engagement opportunities both internally and externally that foster pride, advocacy, and private support for the University of Washington. This position focuses efforts on increasing support for the Clean Energy Institute (CEI) by developing prospective donor relationships and moving these relationships through the donor continuum to gift conversion. This position reports dually to the Executive Director of Development, College of Arts & Sciences, and the Director of Clean Energy Institute. The incumbent will work closely with CEI leadership as well as other advancement and university partners to support new interdisciplinary opportunities to address and mitigate climate change by supporting education, science, and technology translation in the CLEAN ENERGY space as well as managing, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of individual, corporate, and foundation donor prospects.
The Clean Energy Institute (CEI) was founded in 2013 with funds from the state of Washington. Its mission is to accelerate the adoption of a scalable and equitable CLEAN ENERGY future that will improve the health and economy of our state, nation, and world. To accomplish this, CEI supports the advancement of next-generation solar energy and battery materials and devices, as well as their integration with systems and the grid. The Institute creates the ideas and educates the people needed to generate these innovations while facilitating the pathways to bring them to market.
The Clean Energy Institute has high visibility within the UW, academia, state agencies, and the local and global tech community.
What You Will Do:
•Identifies and cultivates new prospective donors, develops relationships, and moves through the donor continuum to gift conversion.
•Builds and sustains long-term partnerships and trust while aligning donor passion and goals with those of CEI and the University.
•Participates cooperatively in the University's prospect management tracking system.
•Develops major gift proposals working with appropriate faculty and other academic personnel.
•Prepares written proposals, informational materials, endowment agreements, gift illustrations, and other materials needed to secure major support.
•Makes proposal presentations for significant gifts and/or provides training and support to appropriate volunteers or academic leaders who will make the solicitations.
•Provides responsive and well-informed advice regarding prospective donors and solicitation strategies to faculty, colleagues, and volunteers.
•Create strong and effective relationships with Departments and Frontline Fundraisers regarding stewardship best practices and strategies.
•Strategically leverages CEI leadership and maintains clear communication with all university partners.
•Ensures accurate and complete record-keeping.
•Represents the university at events or professional functions as appropriate.
•At the direction and guidance of the Director of Programmatic Giving and Special Initiatives, establish annual fundraising plans, goals, objectives, and strategies for CEI-related initiatives.
•Coordinate with campus partners to support climate grand challenge strategies.
•Build strong, trust-based relationships with academic leadership with all campus partners.
•Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
•Bachelor's degree and four to five years of experience in fundraising, or similar transferable skills.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Who You Are:
•Proven fundraising experience, preferably in a higher education environment.
•Experience working with scientists and engineering in academia and industry.
•Demonstrated project management experience.
•Demonstrated passion for, and knowledge of, CLEAN ENERGY science and engineering, climate change education and research, and materials science.
•Knowledge of planned giving options (e.g., charitable remainder trusts, gift annuities, complex outright gifts involving real estate, and testamentary compliments).
•Knowledge of the integrated advancement model and alumni relations/development/advancement principles.
•Ability to clearly articulate funding priorities verbally and in writing to prospects and donors.
•The capacity to achieve superior results working independently and as a member of a creative team in high-pressure situations.
•Demonstrated organizational ability and a strict attention to detail.
•Mature decision-making ability along with a high level of discretion and tact when dealing with possible donors and alumni.
•Demonstrated collaborative communication skills to keep frontline and project partners informed of prospect and department communications, as well as project plans, timelines, and goals.
•Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint for correspondence, special reports, spreadsheets, databases, forms, etc.
