Position Objective
The Assistant Director of Grant Developmentis responsible for leadingthe Grant Development efforts of CPTC's faculty and staff. In conjunction with the AVP for Institutional Effectiveness, the Assistant Director will work to identify funding opportunities, develop projects, draft grant applications, and assist with post-award reporting requirements. This position is critical to obtaining outside funding which will help the College improve and expand its offerings to students. The Assistant Director will be expected to work closely with funding partners, Finance staff, and grant project directors to develop, operate, evaluate, and closeout a substantial portfolio of Grants to the college and CPTC Foundation.
This position has been designated as a bargaining unit position represented by the Aft Professional Staff, Local 6431, and is overtime-exempt.

Duties and Tasks (Essential Functions)
Duty: Grant proposal development leadership
  • Serve as lead writer, co-writer, and/or paperwork steward for all grant proposals.
  • Determine the relevance of funding opportunities and when limited submissions are available, decide which college project(s) should be submitted or via which entity (College or Foundation)
  • Coordinate planning and proposal development efforts for individual grants, facilitating activities with appropriate college staff and community partners.
  • Coordinate proposals of the highest institutional priority, provide editing and technical assistance on other proposals.
  • Coordinate with Institutional Research as needed for the preparation of Grant proposals; work with Institutional Research staff to maintain a database of college, state, regional, and local demographic information.
  • Identify and engage community partners with common goals to support common Grant Development
  • Lead the college-wide effort to obtain government, corporate, and foundation grant support for the college and the Clover Park Technical College Foundation.
  • Research and submit applications for earmarks, national and regional awards, state allocations, and sponsorships.
  • Catalog and prioritize college funding needs from every division and department on campus.
  • Identify sources of Grant funding for high-priority projects within the college.
  • Research and disseminate information on grant opportunities among government, corporate, and foundation sources to college and foundation staff and community partners.
  • Analyze funding policies among government, corporate, and foundation funders; evaluate the potential impact of such funding policies on the College and Foundation; report findings as required.

Duty: Grant process coordination
  • Update annually the grants process flow chart and need-based model after shared governance review and input.
  • Develop and implement a centralized internal review process and tracking system for all grants to safeguard and enhance the college's credibility with grant makers.
  • Act as the "gatekeeper" or "point of contact" for the college when working collaboratively with outside grant seekers and community partners.
  • Interpret federal and state grant rules and guidelines and translate these for college staff and faculty.

Duty: Post-award expertise, leadership, and assistance
  • With Finance, develop and implement post-award procedures guides for project start-up
  • Serve as the college's subject matter expert for grant-related fiscal and reporting policies from public and private entities
  • During hiring or refilling processes, serve as interim project director on grants needing formal or informal leadership to start or keep in progress
  • Coordinate project evaluations between external evaluator, project director, participants, the IRB, and Institutional Effectiveness staff
  • Hold project start-up meetings for new project directors to review policies, procedures, and expectations from CPTC and the funder
  • Assist project directors with reporting requirements and remaining on track to spend down granted funds
  • Assist project directors with communication to program officers, including budget change requests, no-cost extensions, and similar

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • One or more years' experience in a job with significant writing and research demands.
  • Ability to establish timelines and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Experience in organizing and managing major projects; ability to interact effectively with a team.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in higher education, public administration, or related field.
  • Successful grant writing experience, preferably at a community or technical college or other job training institution.
  • Other fundraising experience.

Our college has a rich history of professional and technical education dating back to the 1940s, when Clover Park School District established a War Production program, training civilians as auto mechanics, aircraft-service mechanics, ship-fitters, welders and blueprint readers. Now, CPTC offers more than forty programs in Aerospace, Advanced Manufacturing, Health Sciences, Human Services, Business, Hospitality, Science Technology, Engineering, Transportation and Trades.
