About the Department:The mission of the Department of Animal Science is to provide high quality, relevant education and training for about 750 undergraduate and 120 graduate students to develop new knowledge through research in selected areas to improve efficiency and sustainability of animal agriculture, biomedical science, and nonagricultural animal management to disseminate relevant research based knowledge to a varied clientele for problem solving, enhancing food system.
Essential Job Duties:The Undergraduate Support Assistant plays a pivotal role in the efficient functioning of the Undergraduate Office, serving as the initial point of contact for students and maintaining essential student records using the Student Information System (SIS).
Key responsibilities include:
- Serving as the primary point of contact for students, setting the tone for interactions and promptly addressing inquiries
- Managing student records with precision, ensuring compliance with university policies and facilitating effective advising
- Coordinating various scheduling tasks within the department, including managing calendars for teaching coordinators and overseeing event scheduling like graduation exercises
- Assisting with alumni communications through newsletter preparation and website maintenance
- Contributing to academic processes such as course scheduling, graduation ceremony planning, and new student orientation sessions, including assignment of academic advisors and tracking student credits
- Supporting students with academic issues, such as schedule adjustments and course repeat forms, and promoting internship and research opportunities through communication initiatives.
High School Diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Other Required Qualifications:- Strong written and verbal communication abilities
- Proficiency in computer software applications
- Competence in record management, spreadsheet creation, and report preparation
- Capacity to multitask and effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Excellent interpersonal skills, enabling successful interactions with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders in a professional manner.
- Demonstrated ability in NC State’s Student Information System
- Familiarity with WordPress or similar content management systems
- Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and efficiency
- Skilled in designing and maintaining promotional materials like brochures
