Job Responsibilities
Who We Are:
Orangeburg Area Mental Health Center is part of the South Carolina Department of Mental Health. Orangeburg Area Mental Health Center/OAMHC provides mental health services to individuals in Orangeburg, Calhoun, Bamberg and Holly Hill Counties.
Under the direct supervision of the Business Manager. Performs and assist with a wide range of OAMHC and its satellite offices advanced administrative duties to include, clerical, reporting, and Front Desk coverage. Able to utilize DMH/OAMHC computer-based programs to complete assigned tasks (i.e. CIS, EMR, ETC.) Able to function in the full capacity of the OAMHC Administrative Pool. Able to function and ensure other related OAMHC administrative responsibilities are smoothly operable.

Responsible for the management of center-wide medical records unit in compliance with Departmental Quality Assurance Regulations and Center Policy and
assists in record inspection, reviews records, and documentation requirements.

2.Responsible for center-wide compliance with departmental policies regarding the confidentiality of medical records. Serves as a liaison with legislation of SCDMH regarding questions concerning release of client information. Oversees and assists in preparing client information for release. Ensures appropriate procedures are followed prior to the release of any client record. Oversees preparation of medical records for electronic archive of files when necessary. Consults with clinical staff regarding release of confidential information.

3. Responsible for maintaining current CIS data in assigned fields. Monitors admission and discharge status.

4. Attends training and committee meetings as assigned. Consults with supervisor regarding concerns about Medical Record policy and procedures. Presents relevant Medical Record issues in Unit meetings.

5. Adheres to OAMHC, DMH and State Corporate Compliance policies, procedures, and regulations.

6. Other duties as assigned

Minimum and Additional Requirements
State: A high school diploma. Related clerical experience may be substituted for a high school diploma.

DMH: A High School Diploma and 2 years of clerical experience, or an Associates Degree in secretarial science or other related field, or 3 years clerical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of the principles, policies and practices of clerical duties. Ability to effectively plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion according to schedules and goals. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the public. Ability to exercise judgement and discretion in interpreting and applying policies and procedures.
Must be comfortable and effective working in a professional office environment. Must understand and address the needs of external and internal customers of the Center. Must have a positive attitude and treat all consumers, staff, supervisors, and surrounding community with dignity and respect at all times. Must posses a current, valid state motor vehicle operator license.
