Adaptive Prosthetics & Orthotics is a medical provider of prosthetics (artificial limb), orthopedic bracing, compression and mastectomy garments who takes pride in giving individualized attention to our clients. We have been serving Connecticut since 1997 and now have several clinics in New England in the following locations: Glastonbury, Hartford, Norwich and Waterford, CT, Providence RI, Pittsfield MA and Bennington VT. Position Summary
The Administrative Assistant is responsible for performing administrative and clerical duties to support management as described below. This position will be in our Glastonbury, CT office.
Essential Functions:
- Answers incoming telephone calls and emails, and schedule and confirm patient appointments as necessary
- Enter patient information accurately into medical records software system
- Verifies patient insurance benefits, resolves billing issues
- Obtains prescriptions and other patient information from providers for billing purposes
- Obtains prior authorizations and information needed for insurance carrier appeals
- Interacts with patients via phone and in person
- Collects and records patient payments
- Verifies insurance coverage prior to delivery of devices
- Creates patient estimates and discusses financial responsibilities with the patient
- Maintains professionalism and confidentiality, interacts with patients with courtesy and empathy
Other Functions:
- Prepares items for shipping via US Mail or UPS
- Provides departmental support when critical needs arise
- Makes copies, manages inventory of office or medical supplies and re-orders as needed
- Retrieves documents via fax and scans documents into software
- Elevates patient concerns or issues to management for resolution
Education/Experience:
Required: A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred: Prior experience in a customer service setting. Medical office background and familiarity with medical terminology is helpful.

Ability to write routine reports, messages and correspondence. Ability to understand and explain insurance coverage, co-pays, estimates and billing to patients.
Math Ability:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Computer Skills:
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, faxing software.

Pay: $16.00 - $21.00 per hour
