Seasonal Greenhouse Assistant

White Flower Farm in Morris, Connecticut is seeking Seasonal Greenhouse Assistants to work 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday from 7:00am - 3:30pm. This position will work thru early summer.

The Seasonal Greenhouse Assistant is responsible for all types of greenhouse work including proper cut back and shaping of plants, lifting daily plant schedules, watering as needed, and sanitation of all growing areas. The Seasonal Greenhouse Assistant has good communication skills and can work with all members of the Greenhouse Growing Team. The ability to take direction and learn methods over time is important for this role. The Seasonal Greenhouse Assistant is a seasonal position which supports the Greenhouse Department in all tasks. The ability and willingness to cross train in other production departments is an essential part of this role.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Cut back/ Shaping of crops. Learn to cut back and shape all types of greenhouse crops including annuals, perennials and shrubs. Must be able to take direction from the growing team and understand seasonal changes in methodology. Uniformity of work is imperative to crop success.
• Lifting for Plant Schedules. Understand and execute the selection of plants for the daily schedules. Reading skills and counting are important for this daily task. Must be able to clean plants of old foliage and check plants for quality before lifting.
• Sanitation. Must be able to keep all greenhouse areas clean of diseased foliage and refuse. Sweeping, weeding, and composting are essential parts of this role.
• Watering. Water crops as needed and per grower instruction.
• Labeling. Ensure proper labeling of crops. Ability to read master tags essential and understand sku/ barcode system.
• Crop Consolidation and Movement. Keep crops consolidated and assist in crop rotation to all areas of production.
• Culling. Ability to count and perform cull duties in all greenhouses per grower instruction.
• Scanning. Ability to use hand held scanner for inventory and shipping
