SUMMARY OF JOB PURPOSE
The Claims Technician provides technical and administrative support essential to the operations of the designated team(s) the team member is assigned. Further, the Claims Technician supports the claims examiners to help ensure that clients, claimants, and other internal and external customers receive consistent, outstanding service.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Acts as administrative support to the designated claims team(s), performing various tasks as assigned.
- Assists with claims intake process and client invoicing.
- Responds to client telephone calls on behalf of the assigned claims examiner, as necessary.
- Completes data entry tasks.
- Completes various tasks assigned by claims examiners and informs of resolution or completion.
- Reviews policies to confirm that the claim received falls within coverage under an applicable TPA Contract or goes back to the sender to obtain additional information.
- Processes ISO Claim Search and/or checks the national index registry and shares relevant claimant history with designated claims examiners.
- Requests medical records relevant to claims filed and contacts health care providers as needed to procure additional information or clarify record content.
- Generates Claims Acknowledgements to be sent to Coverholders, agents, and/or clients upon receipt of a new claim.
- Issues payments in accordance with established policies, procedures, and practices.
- Maintains and updates the Suit Log for examiner and leader perusal.
- Establishes and maintains ongoing, effective communication with insured parties, examiners, and members of other Engle Martin departments in the company’s and clients’ interest.
- Participates in special assignments and activities as required or approved; demonstrates initiative in the interest of the client and the organization.

- Adheres to all applicable state insurance regulation requirements and other applicable laws, regulations, and standards.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least one year of experience in an office clerical and/or customer service role

- Ability to manage multi-line office telephone system and wireless communication devices
- Tech Savvy and possesses the ability to use various database software such as Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe & Claims Management Systems (to include VCA and/or RiskMaster)
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is conducted primarily in an indoor office environment with protection from weather conditions and with exposure to noise typical of an office or administrative setting.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS
Work requires light lifting (10 – 20 lbs.), standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, reaching, fingering (keyboarding) and repetitive hand motion, grasping, talking, and hearing at normal speaking levels. Work requires visual acuity to read and prepare data and figures, type words and numbers, view information on a computer terminal, read, operate office machines, and determine the accuracy and thoroughness of work.
