Job Description
Kara is seeking a detail-oriented and proficient Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable Clerk to join our team on a part-time basis. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate financial record-keeping while maintaining our Accounts Payable and accounts receivable processes. Your primary focus will be on bill payments and recording receipts using the QuickBooks Online accounting platform.
Responsibilities
- Maintain organized and up-to-date records of Accounts Payable transactions, including vendor details, payment dates, and amounts.
- Ensure timely and accurate payment of bills primarily utilizing the QuickBooks Online bill pay feature
- Collaborate with vendors and internal stakeholders to resolve any discrepancies or issues related to billing and payments
- Maintain accurate records of accounts receivable, including donor contributions and processing receipts for service fees
- Record and process cash receipt bank deposits
- Collaborate with the operations and development teams to resolve any discrepancies or issues related to billing, payments, or cash receipts
- Assist with financial data entry, updating financial records, and maintaining the general ledger using QuickBooks Online.
- Monitor and reconcile financial transactions, ensuring all entries are accurate and complete.
- Prepare financial reports and summaries as needed using QuickBooks Online's reporting capabilities.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information with integrity.
Required Qualifications
- Understanding/commitment to Kara’s mission, vision, and guiding value of compassion
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in financial record-keeping.
- Proficiency in using QuickBooks Online (including advanced online bill-pay features)
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (particularly Excel) and Google Workspace (drive, sheets, docs, etc.)
- Proven experience (1-2 years) working in Accounts Payable and/or accounts receivable roles.
- Basic understanding of accounting principles and practices.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Previous experience in Accounts Payable/accounts receivable or a similar role is preferred.

Work Schedule
- Part-Time, 15 ~ 20 hours per week
- Hybrid position, combining remote work with in-person tasks at our office location. The expected ratio is 60% in-person / 40% remote.
Through a time-tested and highly effective peer support model (adopted from the Shanti Model), nearly 200 Kara volunteers, trained and supervised by staff, accompany grieving adults and children on their journey through grief. Our peer grief support services are offered in English and Spanish at no cost to the bereaved individual or family. We are funded primarily by charitable donations and the heartfelt generosity of the community we serve.
