Vice President, Engineering

POSITION SUMMARY:

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the AM VP, Engineering is a critical driver of our technical and product strategy aligning our engineering organization with Associated Materials' business goals. This position leads a team of Engineers and Technicians responsible for new product development, implementing improved manufacturing process methods and improving the quality of delivered products within AM's Vinyl siding and Window product portfolio. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Strategic Leadership

  • Provide strategic direction and vision for the engineering team to support the overall business objectives and growth plans.
  • Responsible for overall management of the engineering team tasked with designing and implementing our technical roadmap.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement that drives team engagement, ownership, and operational excellence.
  • Responsible for planning, designing, manufacturing, building, and evolving the AM product portfolio in collaboration with other teams to ensure that the design is properly and effectively implemented and meets the needs of the business and our customers.
  • Effectively align the interests of multiple, diverse stakeholders. You see the big picture, constantly are imagining future scenarios, and create strategies to sustain competitive advantage.

Product Engineering

  • Design, develop, and improve products, including all specifications and bills of material as required.
  • Assure products meet current and future regulatory requirements and manage the certification process for both products and processes.
  • Work directly with the Product Management organization to develop and manage a roadmap of product releases (new products and product changes) and the resource plan to execute that roadmap as required to support the product and business strategies.
  • Work with product management to develop product technology strategy is support of the business strategy.
  • Work with the quality organization to implement the required product updates in support of our continuous quality improvement, as well as urgent remediations. Also support the investigation, testing, root cause identification, and other methodologies in support of improved quality.
  • Work with manufacturing and the continuous improvement teams to support required product/process validations for CI and kaizen activities.
  • Work with procurement in support of VA/VE activities to drive cost and value improvements.
  • Facilitate and manage engineering change process is support of product changes, quality improvement, product certifications, process changes and so forth.
  • Develop and implement a phase gate process that comprehends project complexity and risk to align effort and rigor accordingly.

Manufacturing Engineering

  • Develop and update process technology in accordance with manufacturing strategy and business strategy.
  • Champions the company-wide maintenance and engineering programs to drive long-term equipment sustainability and help ensure a low-cost, high quality operating position.
  • Work with the CI and manufacturing teams to improve process efficiency and conversions costs thorough process and equipment improvement.
  • Work with quality to drive process capability and resulting improved product quality.
  • Work with manufacturing to drive OEE improvement through maintenance procedures, equipment and procedural upgrades, change-over improvements, kaizens, and overall process robustness.
  • Provide process and equipment expertise, capability validation, standard operating and maintenance instructions, and so forth.
  • Develop a corporate competency in Industrial Engineering
  • - system design, standard work, line balance, layout, and so forth.
  • Maintain tooling and equipment records including routings and capacities.

Operations Strategy and Execution

  • Works with the Operations Leadership Team to develop an overall Manufacturing strategy and leads the company-wide capital planning and expenditures process; including, the development of the capital budget and forecast, departmental oversight of planning and execution phases, and post project follow-up to ensure project objectives have been achieved.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • Mechanical or Industrial Engineering degree from four-year college or university.
  • 15 years of experience in an engineering, operations, and manufacturing environment with 10+ years leading teams
  • Program Management. Ideally PMP certification and experience
  • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Commanding knowledge of manufacturing processes, and associated business processes to enable a successful manufacturing operation (capital planning, new product introduction, design for manufacturing, supplier engagement, operational metrics)
  • Vision: ability to assess organizational capability; strategic with the ability to articulate both short and long-term (three-year) plans.
  • Metric-oriented with strong analytical skills and the ability to comprehend broad sets of data (especially lean, operational excellence, continuous improvement).
