Position Title: K-12 Training and Support Coordinator - STEM Enrichment
Location: Office of Strategy & Academics, Curriculum & Instruction
Salary: DFT Salary Schedule
Reports to: Senior Director of STEM and Computer Science
Bargaining Unit: DFT
Benefits Eligible: Yes
Telecommuting Eligibility: Site-based. Not eligible for telecommuting.
In accordance with the Agreement between the Detroit Federation of Teachers (DFT) and the Board of Education of the School District of the City of Detroit, the following vacancy is announced.
Position Summary:
The Training and Support Coordinator will be responsible for providing STEM Enrichment support and training for teachers on implementing the curriculum in alignment with the Vision of Excellent Instruction and the STEM Enrichment Enhancement strategy. They will also be responsible for designing and delivering district-wide professional development and support teachers and school-based staff with analyzing and acting upon student data from formative and summative standards-aligned assessments.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree, preferred
  • A valid Michigan teaching certificate in Elementary or Secondary Education
  • A minimum of 5 years teaching a STEM subject or working in comparable area
  • Experience with principles of adult learning and how to apply them to professional development
  • Experience providing STEM curriculum and program application support to teachers
  • Strong working knowledge of STEM Enrichment programs

  • Strong understanding of STEM education principles and best practices

Essential Functions:
Under the direction of the Senior Director of STEM and Computer Science, the Training and Support Coordinator will have the following key responsibilities:
  • Draft curriculum guidance that supports district programming that is easy to understand and provides intentional sequencing of activities to support excellent teaching and learning.
  • Provide teachers with mentoring and training on the implementation of guidance documents, and pacing guidelines aligned with state standards and the vision for excellent instruction to positively impact student achievement.
  • Assist teachers in the implementation of adopted or developed curriculum aligned to state standards.
  • Draft communication as it pertains to ongoing professional development and curriculum initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with district policies and protocols related to professional development and curriculum initiatives.
  • Monitor and review existing and potential professional development programs to ensure they are aligned with the district mission and vision.
  • Support school-based staff with executing the Vision for Excellent Instruction through observing teachers, modeling lessons, and providing targeted professional development.
  • Develop and execute professional development, in alignment with the Vision for Excellent Instruction.
  • Develop and execute professional development designed to assist teachers with analyzing and acting upon student data from formative and summative standards-aligned assessments.
  • Maintain thorough records and documentation of professional development and training sessions for teachers.
  • Develop a strategic plan for the enhancement and expansion of STEM enrichment opportunities.
  • Identify potential partnerships with local businesses, universities, and other organizations to support enrichment activities.
  • Coordinate the rollout of new STEM initiatives across schools in the district.
  • Monitor program execution to ensure quality and consistency.
  • Provide guidance and resources to schools for successful implementation of STEM enrichment programming.
  • Support STEM events through attendance (some evenings and weekends) with the opportunity to flex time.
