Job Description:
The Tooling Technician's responsibility is to always work in a safe manner. It is also the Tooling Technician's responsibility to build tools that are safe and to exceed the customer's expectations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Tooling Tech will need to build tools with the direction of the tooling supervisor.
- Must report any issue or if information needed to complete jobs to the tooling supervisor immediately.
- Must build tools to SPA standards and according to customer specs.
- Must work well with others.
- Each tool will be checked by the tooling supervisor referencing the check-off sheet at the end of every job it is the tooling tech's responsibility to fully complete the build prior to the check to minimize any rework on the tool.
- Knowledge of epoxies
- Carry out manual tool changes on all manufacturing tools in line with production schedules.
- Complete repairs and modification of manufacturing tools.
- Complete a job ticket at the end of every shift and submit as well as complete E-Time prior to leaving each day.
- Produce all tools with cost-effective means in mind and to exceed customer's expectations.
- Maintain Safe working habits.
- Ability and willingness to learn and grow with the company.
- Good housekeeping is essential to maintain a clean work area and return unused tools back to their proper place.
- Properly label parts or models supplied to SPA for fixture builds with the name of the part/program name or mold, date, customer name, and Job number.
- Willingness to cross-train, to be versatile in the company.
- Work in a fast-paced environment.
- Set up jobs on the CMM, program, operate, certify jobs, write the final report,
- Must have the ability to develop CAD models and detailed drawings.
- Work with Project Management to ensure tooling designs are accurate for the project requirements and released on a timely basis.
- Educating others within the department on the proper status of active projects.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- Basic woodworking skills.
- Basic welding skills on tig and mig. (Aluminum and Steel).
- Basic machining skills including Bridgeport and lath.
- Basic knowledge of pneumatics.
- Basic knowledge of working with composite materials.
- Ability to read prints.
- Ability to travel with no limitation within and out of the country.
- Must have proper tools to execute all tasks.
- Must be able to operate a forklift.
- Travel to/from Canada and Mexico with a valid passport is preferred.
- Must be able to read & thoroughly understand GD&T.
- SolidWorks & WorkNC CAD Software Experience required.
- Tarus CMM programming, setup, & operations experience required.
- Ability to program CMM machines, measure tools, and produce data reports.
Physical requirements:
- Prolonged periods of standing and performing repetitive tasks may be required.
- Must have manual dexterity.
- Must have excellent hand-eye coordination.
- Must wear safety glasses and safety boots.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
- Must be able to bend, squat, stoop, kneel, and perform moderate lifting.
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time traveling to and from the job site.
