Temporary Water Services Engineering Associate

The Role:The Temporary Water Services Engineering Associate performs a variety of tasks to include the review of engineering plans, contract monitoring, and project budgeting for water and wastewater capital improvement projects.
Salary and Schedule:This is a contract position that is funded for a period of 12 months* and pays between $26.21 - $39.31 per hour depending on experience.
This position has flexible hours and can either be filled at:

• Full time hours: 40 hours per week or
• Part time hours 20 hours per week.

The work schedule is typically Monday - Friday with work hours from 8:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M.
* Contract employees are considered "at-will" and employment may be terminated by Glendale for any reason or for no reason and without cause.
Benefits:Full time Temporary personnel are entitled to participate in all City sponsored medical insurance plans, there are no benefits available for part time temporary employees.
Retirement:This position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).
Contribution is mandatory, and the current contribution rate is 12.29%.
This position will be open until filled; applicants will be reviewed as they are received.

1. Coordinates capitol improvement projects for water/wastewater treatment, distribution, and collection systems.
2. Assess the work of outside consultants to include developing project schedules, budgeting, reviewing project bids, and evaluating consultants and contractors.
3. Reviews project change orders and payment requests.
4. Reviews engineering plans, reports, specifications, and contract documents.
5. Evaluates design/construction project schedules and identifies/resolves any scheduling conflicts.
6. Provides project assistance to outside consultants, Water Services operations staff, and principal engineering team as needed.
7. Coordinates capitol improvement project communications with internal city representatives, and outside organizations as appropriate.
8. Drafts and proofreads written and oral project reports.
9. Performs research, analyzes findings, and prepares recommendations for Water Services infrastructure planning needs.
10. Responds to inquiries regarding water and wastewater projects.
11. Assists in the development of, and maintenance of project budgets.
12. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
One year of post-secondary education in construction, engineering, or a related field, and one year of experience in water/wastewater, design, construction, operations, or project management.
Knowledge of:
Civil engineering principals, terminology, and practices

Design Guidelines for water/wastewater infrastructure projects

Ability to:
Communicate effectively orally, electronically, and in writing
Read and interpret drawings and specifications and prepare clear and accurate reports, cost estimates, and other correspondence
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with city employees and the general public
Monitor and review multiple projects and priorities
Arrive at sound decisions based upon engineering criteria, policy, and procedures
Follow oral and written instructions
Employ practical applications of mathematics, trigonometry, and geometry
Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.
Special Requirements:

• Valid Arizona Driver's License
