ABOUT THIS POSITION
The City of Phoenix Water Services Department, one of the nation’s largest potable water utilities, treats and delivers safe, reliable drinking water to 1.5 million customers across approximately 540 square miles. Phoenix Water Services also manages the sewer collection system and treats wastewater for 2.5 million residents in metropolitan Phoenix.
The City is hiring a Senior GIS Technician. This position develops and/or coordinates work on geographic information systems (GIS) applications. Duties vary depending on assignment and may include performing mapping duties, spatial analysis for the purpose of thematic mapping, data management and problem solving. Data management includes the collection, manipulation, analysis, and storage of quantifiable data associated with geographic entities and attributes including maintaining geographic datasets and utilizing geoprocessing tools. Problem solving techniques are used to analyze spatial data and to find answers based on variables in a specific situation. Understanding relational database concepts (GIS and otherwise) is essential and to work with SQL is preferred.
Some positions supervise staff who develop and maintain the GIS databases, coverages, and linkages to various databases.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Knowledge of computer systems design and programming.
- Ability to effectively communicate GIS related functions with end-users or staff.
- An ability to work with a variety of GIS applications such as ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, ArcOnline, Portal, Operations Dashboard, Collector and ArcSDE.
- Familiarity with AGOL and Enterprise Portal implementation and user roles.
SALARY
Pay Range:$28.86 - $47.01 annually.
Hiring Range: $28.86 - $42.64 annually.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in geographic information systems, geography, planning, landscape architecture, civil engineering, computer science, or a related field.
- OR Two years at a technical or vocational school,
- And two years of experience working with geographic information systems.
- Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus experience with the following:
- Working with a versioned SDE database. Experience with or the desire to learn Python scripting.
- Using map services, web maps, and web apps.
- Working with a Work Order Management System.
- Creating maps using the ESRI ArcGIS Desktop/Pro program.
- Performing complex spatial analysis within the ArcGIS environment.
- Conducting end-user training for GIS web map applications.
