ABOUT THIS POSITION
The City of Phoenix Water Services Department, one of the nation's largest potable water utilities, treats and delivers safe, reliable drinking water to 1.5 million customers across approximately 540 square miles. Phoenix Water Services also manages the sewer collection system and treats wastewater for 2.5 million residents in metropolitan Phoenix.
Employees in the Industrial Maintenance Mechanic positions are responsible for leading and performing journey-level installation, repair, and maintenance of mechanical equipment such as pumps, blowers, centrifuges, gearboxes, valves, and valve actuators at water or wastewater treatment plants, reclamation plants, groundwater wells, pumping stations, lift stations, and reservoirs. Work assignments are varied, and employees must be skilled in several mechanical trades including fabrication and millwright.
Employees work independently and as part of a team, sometimes leading the team. The successful candidate will be reliable, have a good attitude, and be a team player.
Industrial Maintenance Mechanics may also be required to:
- Move objects weighing 50 pounds.
- Work in confined spaces and at heights greater than 10 feet.
- Work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the outdoor elements.
- Work irregular hours, shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings.
SALARY
Pay Range: $28.17 to $41.63 per hour.
Hiring Range: $28.17 to $35.96 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Four years of skilled experience in mechanical maintenance and repair work, including one year in a lead capacity.
- Experience must include the fabrication, installation, and repair of large mechanical equipment, deep well, turbine, and water and wastewater pumps, including work with submersible and turbine deep well units and centrifugal booster pumps.
- Possession of a Class A Commercial Driver License Instructional Permit at the time of hire and possession of a Class A Commercial Driver License after 12 months in the classification.
- Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Grade 1 certification by end of the probationary period.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications listed above, plus experience in/with:
- Welding and fabrication.
- Industrial piping repair and fabrication.
- Gear box and mechanical linkage applications.
- Using dial indicators, micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and precision shaft alignment equipment.
- Rigging and hoisting large capacity equipment using boom trucks, mobile, or overhead bridge cranes.
- Repair of large industrial equipment, blowers, centrifuges, turbines, pumps, generators, hydraulics, high speed rotating equipment, gearboxes, and air compressors.
