Teaching Programs Coordinator-Department of Literatures in English
Department of Literatures in English
Cornell University's Department of Literatures in English has a long history of critical and creative ventures. Widely known for scholarly excellence, the department is also home to prize-winning poets and fiction writers. The department has 40+ professorial faculty, two senior lecturers, 70+ graduate students, as well as postdoctoral fellows and distinguished visiting faculty. The graduate program offers a PhD in literature and an MFA degree in fiction or poetry. The department offers over 300 courses during the academic year, with an enrollment of over 5,000 students from across the university.
The Opportunity
As the Teaching Programs Coordinator, you will provide comprehensive administrative support for the department's diverse range of curriculum, including First-Year Writing Seminars, expository writing, creative writing, undergraduate literature courses, graduate seminars, and cross-listings.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Recordkeeping and Data Management: Maintain accurate records for over 300 courses annually. Perform data entry into CCI and ACALOG, manage FileMaker database.
  • Catalog Copy and Scheduling: Prepare course catalog copy, manage class meeting patterns, and oversee classroom scheduling.
  • Course Enrollment: Organize and administer course enrollment processes, including pre-enrollment and add/drop activities.
  • Grade Submission Oversight: Ensure the timely and accurate submission of grades each semester. Manage deadlines and schedules for faculty, senior lecturers, graduate student instructors, and visiting lecturers.
  • Curriculum Planning Support: Assist department administrators in curriculum planning by designing and preparing reports, such as time grids and enrollment trends, pulling data from university and department systems.
  • Policy Liaison: Act as a resource for faculty regarding policies affecting course offerings. Serve as a liaison between the department and college and university registrars.
  • Communication: Independently communicate with instructors and students regarding enrollment, classroom changes, A/V requirements, and independent studies.
  • Collaboration: Work collaboratively with other department staff to coordinate the department's curriculum. Provide backup for office management tasks, monitor department inboxes, participate in the annual commencement event, and assist with department room scheduling.

This is a part-time (35 hours/week) benefits-eligible position that is based in Ithaca, NY. This position follows a 4:1 campus-to-home hybrid work schedule. Work hours are 8:30am-4pm Monday through Friday.
What We Need
We are looking for a team member who is organized, has attention to detail, and is a good communicator. Additionally, you will:
  • Have completed formal training beyond a HS Diploma of 1 to 2 years; 2 years' college coursework, or associate's degree; more than 4 but less than 6 years' experience
  • Have experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Utilize excellent interpersonal and communication skills; strong writing ability.
  • Independently and effectively handle multiple projects with overlapping deadlines.
  • Be proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel, and familiar with database management.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail, especially regarding accuracy in data entry and recordkeeping.

  • Experience with university course support systems: 25Live, Tableau, CCI, OBIEE, Faculty Center, and ACALOG

    remotely 1 day per week and on-campus 4 days per week. The university reserves the right to modify, suspend, revoke or terminate the hybrid work arrangement at any time.

    multiple W-2 Forms depending on their work location. The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholding for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working temporarily outside of New York State.
