Job description

The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for an Assistant Performance Coordinator, Performance and Live Programs, for the period May 2024 through May 2028, to support the coordination of various activities related to the presentation of performance in MoMA's exhibition program, which includes the Marie-Josée and Henry Kravis Studio, dedicated to live and experimental programming in the heart of the Museum's collection galleries. Exhibitions in the upcoming season of The Kravis Studio include work by Shana Moulton, Martin Beck, Joan Jonas, Sable Elyse Smith, Sarah Michelson and Nour Mobarak. Other performances include work by Charles Gaines, Jason Moran, and Otobong Nkanga.
Additional responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the associate director/producer and the senior manager/producer, Performance and Live Programs, works in tandem with other members of the performance exhibition team, including project-specific coordinators and production assistants, curators, curatorial assistants, Visitor Engagement staff, Security staff, Exhibition Design staff, and other departments.
  • Assists with the implementation of performance schedules, acting as the first point of contact for artists and performers onsite.
  • Coordinates with various third parties such as costume supervisors.
  • Organizes and maintains green room supplies.
  • Performs regular gallery checks as needed.
  • Trouble-shoots questions from performers.
  • Performs any other duties reasonably related to the functions described above, including scheduling meetings, managing calendars, drafting notes, researching projects, maintaining and creating project files, general office organization, and budget tracking.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree and experience in a theater or museum setting, exhibition planning, live performance, or similar highly desirable.
  • Organized, articulate, and professional.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe Creative Suite, and other standard office procedures and equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail: visual and written accuracy and precision required.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Must work effectively both independently and as part of a larger team in a fast-paced environment. Skilled at prioritizing and multitasking, in order to follow through with a variety of projects that require immediate attention as well as long term care.
  • Ability to maintain composure in a sometimes stressful environment is a must.
  • High level of diplomacy, judgment, and accountability.
  • Strong knowledge of a broad range of contemporary arts, particularly performance.
  • Candidates must be flexible with the hours and be able to work nights and weekends as the performances may require.

Salary: The salary for this position is $60,000 per annum
