Job description

Upland Advocacy, a subsidiary of Imagine360, is seeking a Senior Vice President Business Development to join the team! This position will be responsible for providing strategic vision and leadership to the development and growth of Upland Advocacy and its suite of solutions. You will be responsible for articulating the value and benefit of partnering with Upland Advocacy, developing market channels to engage with prospective customers, and providing market insights to evolve Upland to reach a broader market or increase its value to employers and individuals. In a start-up environment, you will be required to be entrepreneurial, developing and executing go-to-market strategies while planning and building the infrastructure and development capabilities to support Upland's growth goals. Leading with influence and positional authority, you will provide vision and leadership to cross functional and third-party marketing and communication partners and vendors.

Key responsibilities include leading the development of and achievement of revenue growth targets, profitability goals, and client retention goals while working closely with Operations to continuously improve the performance and application of Upland's solutions and ensuring a high-quality customer and participant experience.

Position Location: 100% Remote

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Supervisory responsibilities: This role will initially have direct supervision of a Sales Market Analyst. As you determine the appropriate sales structure to support the go-to-market strategy, this role will transition to a player-coach with the SVP Business Development having both individual growth targets and responsibility for coaching a new Business Development team.
  • Lead go-to-market strategy to develop market channels, refine market messaging and value/benefit articulation, educate the market; Participate in strategic consulting relationships on go-to-market strategy and execute on recommendations and learnings in partnership with Operations and Marketing
  • Initial and continual needs assessment for existing and identified markets with the goal of evolving solutions and delivery models to increase Upland's addressable market; Collaborate with Operations to develop product roadmaps to support prioritization, planning and execution
  • Contribute to the development of sales goals (e.g., revenue growth goals, profitability goals, retention goals) and supporting growth and Business Development initiatives; Support the annual budgeting process
  • Define growth strategy to achieve sales goals; In collaboration with Imagine360 Growth functions, define Upland's specific needs and develop the requisite Business Development Function; Develop a strategy to leverage Upland's Business Development, Operations and subject matter expertise across the Imagine360 Growth and Client Experience teams to drive pipeline and opportunity growth across the enterprise
  • Develop and maintain a Client Engagement Strategy in partnership with Operations, including defined roles, responsibilities, and activities across the lifecycle from handshake-to-renewal (implementation, mid-year/periodic reviews, reporting, etc.); Ongoing responsibilities and accountabilities for Client Engagement based on the defined strategy
  • Develop expertise in market and regulatory developments related to Upland's solutions including competitive solutions, industry/market studies, regulatory changes, best practices, other developments; Provide insights related to market needs contributing to value/benefit articulation, product evolution and policies/procedures
  • Provide coaching across the Upland and Imagine360 teams, both to potential future direct reports and informally to other team members
  • Develop and maintain a recurring reporting cadence with the Executive Team that provides insight into progress against goals, current and future Business Development initiatives, and projects; Provide dashboard reporting for short term metrics; Monthly/quarterly executive reporting
  • As needed, provide leadership to cross-functional internal teams to pursue prospects and growth opportunities (e.g., individual sales, new solution delivery strategies, new solution features/capabilities, etc.)
  • Serve as liaison for Upland Advocacy within Imagine360 with functional Directors and Vice Presidents ensuring connectivity across the organization, awareness of Upland and its value, and facilitate collaboration

Required Experience/Education:

  • Undergraduate Degree in Business, Healthcare, Insurance, or related field
  • 15+ years Account Management and Sales/Business Development within Employer Benefits, Health/Voluntary
  • Experience with employer-based employee benefit products and related development of marketing story, collateral, capabilities
  • Proven track record of success selling to employer groups in the large employer market (5k+ employees)
  • Must have a valid driver's license and proof of automobile insurance

Skills and Abilities:

  • Successful Business Development experience driving growth with a consultative product based on a specific employee or participant population that requires education and the development of demand for a non-essential benefit
  • Understanding of large employer people operations, their unique challenges and economics
  • Strong knowledge of benefits, self-funded employer groups, voluntary benefits, and brokers dynamics
  • High EQ: Ability to read people, situations, and interpersonal dynamics accurately and navigate appropriately
  • Excellent communication skills supporting the ability to consult and advise across a variety employer groups, brokers, and internal stakeholders with diverse backgrounds, educations, and levels of sophistication around Upland's solutions, Strength in individual, small group, and large presentation arenas
  • Strong consensus building skills: Leads and supports change; takes appropriate risks
  • Builds and develops partnerships through open lines of communication
  • Creates and executes a disciplined, documented, and transparent sales process
  • Strong positive and professional presence that instill confidence and credibility
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to understand and connect complex delivery systems to support future product evolution
  • Exceptional follow-though and execution skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize workloads, multi-task and manage priorities to meet deadlines
  • Up to 35% travel required
