SUMMARY – This auxiliary position will work with the Sustainability Manager and Economic and Community Development staff to provide administrative support for a variety of sustainability efforts, including the activities pertaining to the Farmers’ Market Season, Fix It Fair, Sustainable Saturday, Small Business Saturday and other events throughout the year. This position will require both in-office and on-site hours as necessary. Work is performed under the general direction of the Sustainability Manager, but leeway is granted for the employee to exercise independent judgment and initiative. Hours and shifts vary contingent on operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Contact, confirm and coordinate with current vendor list for participation in Farmer’s Market season.
Actively recruit new Farmer’s Market vendors to expand the variety of products for sale.
Distribute market paperwork to vendors and assist with determining vendor eligibility.
Coordinate vendor payments and maintain accurate records.
Promote the market through social media, e-newsletters, and other community outreach.
Promote all City programs to include composting, recycling, volunteer opportunities, etc.
Staff the welcome booth, provide information to customers, support vendor setup and help run the EBT/Credit Card machine.
Assist with other Environmental Programs’ special events.
Provide support to Economic and Community Development on other departmental special events.
Other duties as assigned.
Ability to work a flexible schedule not to exceed 29 hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – The minimum eligibility requirements for positions within this Class are as follows:
Background - Applicant must be a citizen of the United States (U.S.) with no convictions of a felony or a serious crime. Applicant must also complete a background examination that may include, but is not limited to, a criminal history check, education and professional certification verification, credit check and drug testing before employment with the city.
Computer Skills - Ability to operate a computer terminal or Personal Computer and tablets. Proficient in the use of typical word processing software such as Microsoft Word and the use of spreadsheet software such as Microsoft Excel. Able to learn and apply other office software, such as Canva, and automated office procedures including the City’s software.Able to type 40 words per minute and produce work that meets departmental formatting requirements.
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES – To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS – Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.Ability to write correspondence and routine reports. Ability to speak effectively and to maintain discretion with information that may be of a sensitive or confidential nature. Demonstrated ability to respond with tact and diplomacy to inquiries or complaints from fellow employees, management staff, elected officials, state and county counterparts, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS – Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions and statistical inference to practical situations, including reports and analysis.
REASONING ABILITY – Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS – The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work but will occasionally be required to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must also occasionally drive a vehicle

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to everyday risks or discomforts requiring normal safety precautions typical of an indoor office environment. The employee will be required to work outside during market hours.
