This is a GNA/Geriatric Nursing Assistant Training program
Start Date: 4/1/2024- 5/28/2024
Classes will be on Mon, Tues, and Thur. from 5 to 9 PM
Clinicals will be two weekends 7 to 3 (Sat and Sun) LAST TWO WEEKENDS IN MAY
YOU MUST BE ABLE TO WORK 3pm -11 pm or 11PM -7 AM UPON COMPLETION
St. Elizabeth Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is located at 3320 Benson Ave. Baltimore MD 21227 is currently seeking a Geriatric Nursing Assistant Trainee who will with proper guidance and supervision assist in performing medical and physical care to elders in a nursing unit at the conclusion of a Maryland Board of Nursing-approved Training program.
CLASS SCHEDULE is Mon, Tues, and Thur. from 5 to 9 PM Starting APRIL 1, 2024
THE TRAINING PROGRAM IS 8 WEEKS LONG - AND CAN LEAD TO EMPLOYMENT AT THE END OF THE PROGRAM FOR THOSE WHO COMPLETE THE PROGRAM.
YOU MUST BE ABLE TO WORK 3pm -11 pm or 11PM -7 AM
To Qualify for the program you must meet the following criteria:
- You must be able to arrive at St. Elizabeth's by 4:45pm and stay until 9 pm
- If you have more than 2 absence or lateness you will be removed from the program
- Be over 30 years old
- Proof of High School graduation with either a diploma or GED
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ONCE THE TRAINING PROGRAM IS OVER: Assist in attending to elders’ personal hygiene and daily living. This may include, but is not limited to: providing baths, shampoo and shaving, providing and clearing bedpans and urinals, assisting with meals, and feeding patients. Ambulates, turns, and positions patients. Provides fresh water and nourishment between meals.
- Assist in the planning and facilitation of social activities for elders of the nursing unit which provide meaningful ways to spend time through recreation, exercise, and relationship building.
- Follows universal precautions, proper infection control, sanitation, and safety standards in all work and elder activities.
- Learn to report observations of elders to the nurse caring for the patient to ensure professional assessment.
- Learn to participate actively in the elders' care planning and care plan meetings, serving as the elder’s closet advocate in directing their care and honoring their preferences.
- Attend mandatory in-service training.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or GED.
REQUIREMENTS & ABILITIES:
- Maintains a safe environment for patients and co-workers
- Understanding of basic concepts of personal care, housekeeping, and other care areas
- Heavy work that includes moving objects up to 100 pounds or more.
- Adjusting or moving objects up to 75 pounds in all directions.
- Completion of the agency-approved Training program. Geriatric Nursing Assistant licensure must be completed within sixty (60) days of employment.
