The Surgical Coordinator is the patient's surgical program liaison. Primarily telephonic, this role is responsible for ensuring that the patient experiences a smooth transition from an admission or outpatient procedure back to the home setting. Throughout the duration of services, the Patient Care Coordinator will communicate with patients and caregivers to uncover and act on possible barriers to a healthy outcome, thereby safeguarding against unnecessary readmissions.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work with patients to schedule surgeries
  • Greets patients, family members and guests with a friendly smile
  • Assists patients with signing in and completing registration
  • Enters and scans patient's demographic and insurance information into Epic
  • Verifies insurance eligibility and benefit information; informs patients of insurance benefits
  • Collects co-payments and patient balances
  • Answers incoming phone calls in a courteous and prompt manner; directs calls and takes messages
  • Assists physician and clinical staff by coordinating follow up care for patients; schedules referral appointments for patients and obtains authorization for diagnostic testing
  • Sends patient records to primary care physician
  • Assists with other tasks as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
  • 1 year of experience in a Surgical Scheduler position
  • Ability to work between the following hours:
    • Mon 8:00am - 5:30pm
    • Tues 8:00am - 4:30pm
    • Weds 8:00am - 5:30pm
    • Thurs 8:00am- 5:30pm
    • Fri 8:00am - 2:00pm

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Epic experience
  • Medical office experience; Urgent Care experience 
  • Knowledge of insurance carriers and managed care plans  

New York Residents Only: The salary range for New York residents is $16.00 to $31.44 per hour.
