Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Bariatric Program Coordinator.
Collaborates with the Director of Bariatric Program and Senior Director of Nursing to establish priorities and to develop long and short-term patient care planning to realize positive outcomes. Assists in program development, managing the accreditation process and ensuring continuous compliance with MBSAQIP requirements. Maintains relevant policies and procedures, patient education, outcomes data collection, quality improvement efforts, and education of relevant staff in the various aspects of the metabolic and bariatric surgery patient, with a focus on patient safety. Supports the development of written protocols and education of clinical staff and serves as liaison between the hospital and all surgeons performing metabolic and bariatric surgery at NYULH. Works closely with the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Clinical Reviewer (MBSCR) to assure timely submission of outcome data and functions collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team.

Job Responsibilities:

    • Manages accreditation process to ensure that the center meets expectations and ensures continuous compliance.
    • Maintains and supports the development of all written pathways and protocols.
    • Provides leadership role in policy/pathway development and organization.
    • Actively participates/coordinates committees, task forces and work groups as needed/requested including but not limited to administering the MBSAQIP Committee meetings.
    • Serves as the liaison between the facility and all metabolic and bariatric proceduralists.
    • Works with MBS Director to anticipate and identify the needs of the center and creatively implement solutions to problems.  Integrates evidence-based practice into programmatic improvements.
    • Maintains documentation of call schedules and provides access to all departments providing care for the metabolic and bariatric patient.
    • Assures compliance with standards and regulations promulgated by all applicable agencies.
    • Collaborates with the Bariatric Service Line members to implement and evaluate recommendations to improve quality of care, safety, surgical outcomes and overall quality performance.
    • Manages the development, implementation and evaluation of all Metabolic and Bariatric quality improvement initiatives.
    • Responsible for the oversight of the data collection process and verifying that data collection is consistent with what is found in patient medical records.
    • Collects, analyzes and uses data to drive practice changes that integrate quality, safety, patient experience, and productivity metrics for excellent patient outcomes.
    • Contributes and supports Bariatric Program staff and educators through planning, implementing, and evaluating educational efforts and learning methods.
    • Assist in planning of continuing education opportunities in managing the special needs of bariatric patients.
    • Collaborates with administration, providers and staff in business planning efforts to develop and grow the MBS program.
    • Coordinates patient and referring provider outreach activities in support of clinical program growth.
    • Ensures a collaborative interdisciplinary approach to achieve optimal patient care outcomes and to further the goals of the institution.
    • Maintains awareness of the preoperative, perioperative and postoperative processes.
    • Maintains awareness of research protocols applicable to the patient population served, assures staff awareness and knowledge of such protocols, protects rights of patients, and participates in assessment /evaluation of outcomes.
    • Facilitates an environment conducive to creativity in practice, shared decision making and collaboration with all members of the health care team.
    • Promotes own professional growth and development in clinical and managerial roles
    • Serves as a resource for staff for regulatory standards.

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Current licensed professional nurse or registered dietitian in New York. Master's Degree in Nursing or health-related area preferred. At least three years of clinical practice in the care of the patient population served..
Required Licenses: Registered Nurse License-NYS, Registered Dietitian

Preferred Qualifications:
Progressive leadership; demonstrated in a leadership position or demonstrates the potential for leadership competency. Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, and creative problem solving.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $63,935.04 - $82,000.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
