Position Summary Information
Primary Purpose Reporting to the Associate Director of Counseling and Psychological Services ( CAPS)/Director of Training, the Student Victim Advocate serves as a confidential resource as the University's Victim Advocate. The Student Victim Advocate works collaboratively with the Title IX Coordinator, the Care Managers, the CAPS Clinical Case Managers, the Gender Equity Center, Pride Center staff, Student Conduct and Community Standards, the office of the Dean of Students, staff, students, and faculty to best support students. This position provides confidential and trauma-informed advocacy and support services for survivors by helping individuals learn about their options and rights, assisting with safety planning, providing legal and medical accompaniment, and/or offering academic assistance. This position serves as a resource for all three campuses (Stockton, Sacramento, and San Francisco).
Essential Functions - Provides emergency/crisis and ongoing support or assistance in response to issues arise that impact the well-being and safety of victims/survivors/complainants.
- Uses trauma-informed counseling and interview skills and techniques with individuals who have experienced sexual misconduct, dating/domestic violence, and/or stalking.
- Experience working with a diverse university community and actively demonstrates commitment to equity, justice, and inclusion.
- Develops collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders and organizations and interacts effectively with students, faculty, staff, administrators, parents, and alumni.
- Provides educational accommodation recommendations to Title IX Coordinator.
- Strong organizational skills to work independently, to prioritize workload under pressure, and to communicate with leadership as needed.
- Keeps accurate and timely electronic records on contacts with students.
- Maintains an office which is supportive and confidential for victims/survivors/complainants.
- Provides information regarding on and off campus reporting options, including Title IX information.
- Accompanies victims/survivors/complainants, at their request and with their permission, and be with them as a support person throughout all stages of the investigation, counseling, medical appointment, legal appointments, etc.
- Serves as a liaison for issues with the Title IX Office, Public Safety, Residence Life and Housing, Student Conduct and Community Standards, Dean of Students Office, Gender Equity Center, Pride Center, and other key campus departments.
- Coordinates and communicates regularly with the Title IX Team and the Title IX Coordinator.
- Serves as a committee member on University, individual campus, and Student Life committees, as appointed.
- Builds collaborative partnerships and relationships with Stockton, Sacramento and San Francisco community Partners such as SFWAR, WEAVE, My Sister's House, Women's Center Youth and Family Services, etc.
- Works with appropriate partners to deliver training to professional and student staff.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

- Bachelor's Degree.
- Two (2) years of post degree work experience in educational or social services setting.
- One (1) year of work experience and general knowledge of sexual assault, dating/domestic violence, and stalking and best practices in violence prevention.
- Experience working with a diverse population.
- Completion of the 40-hour California State Sexual Assault Counselor certification within first 12 months of hire.
- Become a certified instructor for Green Dot Bystander Intervention within first 12 months of hire.
- Master's Degree in a related field.
- Experience working effectively with staff, students, administration, and the community, including individuals of diverse backgrounds, life experiences, and abilities.
- Three (3) years of experience in Student Affairs in Higher Education and related field.
- Certified Instructor for Green Dot Bystander Intervention.
- Strong communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated commitment to DEI and trauma-informed care.
- Successful completion of the 40-hour California State Sexual Assault Counselor certification.
- Familiarity with Stockton, Sacramento, and San Francisco community resources.
- Working knowledge of relevant laws and polices (FERPA, Title IX, Clery Act, Violence against Women Act (VAWA), and ongoing legislation).
- Demonstrate the ability to listen to multiple points of view in order to build consensus, and inform others of policies and decisions.
- Bilingual/Multilingual.
- Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
- Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Valid driver's license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the University's fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University and its insurance carrier reserves the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record.
Hiring Range $64,480-$65,480 per year. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
