Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
A Senior Estimator in the construction field is responsible for providing accurate cost estimates for construction projects. They are expected to liaise with subcontractors, evaluate bid specifications and drawings, and ensure that the organization or client is fully aware of the necessary tools or information required to successfully bid and acquire a project. The following are some of the key duties and responsibilities of a Senior Estimator:
- Overseeing and leading the estimating process on specified bids.
- Leading, supporting, and mentoring junior members of the estimating team.
- Implementing pricing strategies.
- Assisting and participating in the tender review process and implementing contract feedbacks into future bids.
- Preparing or coordinating full estimates on complex and large projects as required by client or customer’s documents.
- Reviewing construction documents and understanding the scope of work to bid.
- Obtaining bids from subcontractors, obtaining best prices for materials, and ensuring correctness and accuracy by reviewing estimates.
- Ensuring proper bid administration by preparing full estimates on complex work, estimating the time, materials, and equipment that are required for job completion.
Must Haves:
- BA in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Construction Management
- 8 YOE in the Heavy Civil Construction industry with at least 2 YOE as an Estimator
- Dams - Large water infrastructure (capital projects not pipe laying)
- Bridges
- Tunnels
- Subway (not railway infrastructure)
- Okay w/ 15-20% travel
- Lead or Managerial experience (manages bid process)
- Experience using MS office Suite (excel specific)
- Ability to write proposals and SELL to clients
- Has worked on capital projects end to end
