Social Media Specialist

Position Summary

The Social Media Specialist for the AMVETS California Department is responsible for curating all social platform content. Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Social Media Specialist will develop storylines and posting schedules, and work alongside the Marketing & Communications team to develop additional content that reflect the Department’s values and resonates with our veterans. The primary focus of this role is to implement a Social Media strategy that drives engagement, awareness, and donations with the goal of driving traffic to our website.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Responsibilities:

·       Develop and execute a Social Media content strategy that aligns with the Foundation’s overall marketing goals and objectives.

·       Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications teams to develop and produce high-quality content for Social Media channels.

·       Coordinate with the Communications team to align on storylines and focuses.

·       Monitor Social Media channels to stay up-to-date on trends, topics, and conversations that are relevant to AMVETS CA Department and its audience.

·       Schedule/publish Social Media content across various platforms (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn etc.) that is engaging, informative, and relevant to our target audience.

·       Analyze and report on Social Media performance metrics and use insights to optimize future content.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

·       Can work effectively in a fast-paced environment

·       Expertise in social platforms and current and future trends

·       Strong knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Etc.)

·       Ability to handle complicated community management situations, which may include monitoring social channels during off-business hours

·       The ability to travel when necessary for events

·       A sense of urgency in meeting deadlines or turning out content quickly when applicable

·       Excellent writing and communication skills

·       Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

·       Customer Service to assist AMVETS officers and members

Education & Experience:

Communications, or related field preferred.

·       3+ years of experience in Social Media content.

·       Demonstrated experience creating engaging and high-quality Social Media content across multiple platforms.

·       Proficient in Social Media management and analytics tools such as Sprout Social and Google Analytics.

  • Coordinate membership recruiting campaigns and fund-raising events across various online platforms to ensure a consistent brand message.
  • Develop outreach strategies to establish relationships with influencers and build a database of micro-influencers and influencers aligned with the brand values, target audience and marketing objectives.
  • Organize and host live streaming events, Q&A sessions, and virtual shows to engage with the audience in real-time.

·       Non-Profit experience/background preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to work in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful, customer service-oriented environment, perform duties under pressure and meet deadlines in a timely manner. The employee must work as part of a team, complete assignments independently and take instructions from supervisors.

Regular and reliable attendance and adherence to organizational standards of availability required. Must be willing and able to work flexible hours to support events.
