Trustmark currently has a great opportunity for a Senior Tax Accountant who will report directly to our Senior Director, Corporate Tax. In this position you will have an opportunity to learn and grow your career. You will work with others in our Tax Department and have exposure to other areas within our Tax and Finance departments at our corporate office located in Lake Forest, IL. This is a hybrid work arrangement that requires 3 days in the office.
Overview
Under direct supervision, responsible for supporting the team in execution of tax processes, in accordance with current legislation and within pre-established deadlines. Maintains tax information and records; prepares, state and local tax returns, Sales and Use tax returns, tax work papers, and other required reports; assists in the preparation of tax provision and footnotes; maintains account reconciliations; supports the department in other tasks where needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepares and files state income tax and municipal returns for assigned entities.
- Prepares state income tax returns and tax estimated payments for assigned states.
- Prepares state income tax return extensions for less complex entities and/or completes portions of returns for larger and/or more complex entities.
- Prepares sales/use returns; performs monthly analysis and reconciliation of sales/use tax accounts.
- Responsible for account reconciliations and preparing journal entries for assigned entities.
- Prepares annual premium and tax filings and estimated quarterly payments for various states.
- Prepares and reconciles quarterly tax depreciation schedules for assigned entity.
- Maintains fixed asset system.
- Independently analyzes and interprets tax regulations and provides tax advice and assistance when issues arise.
- Prepares state income tax returns, estimated/extension payments, quarterly accrual, and account reconciliation.
- Prepares sales/use returns; performs monthly analysis and reconciliation of sales/use tax accounts.
- Utilizes tax accounting software.
- Conducts tax research and recommends appropriate tax treatment; assists with federal and state audits and notices.
- Assists in other duties assigned, including withholding and information reporting, premium tax returns and payments, etc.
Education and Experience
- A minimum of three years of recent corporate tax experience is required in the areas of federal and/or state tax compliance and a functional knowledge of corporate tax.
- Experience with accounting general ledger (Workday), financial reporting tools and tax compliance software (OneSource) a plus.
- Bachelor's Degree in Tax/Accounting/Finance is required.
- Must be proficient in Excel.
- Prior experience working in a multi-state mid-to-large corporation preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and multiple-task prioritization within exacting time constraints.
- Have the motivation and initiative to learn and accept new challenges.
- Demonstrates high degree of professionalism in communication, attitude and teamwork with customers, peers, and management.
