AZTEC is seeking resumes from motivated and qualified environmental professionals to fill our position as Senior Geologist/ Environmental Scientist in our Irvine, California location. The successful candidate will be responsible to market and establish a client base, manage all details of projects, prepare cost estimates and scope of work for each project, and prepare and maintain schedules. The successful candidate will also be required to conduct fieldwork, write technical reports, and mentor staff on field methods and technical report-writing. As AZTEC continues to grow, the position likely will require less fieldwork.
Candidates must illustrate necessary qualifications and have documented experience in hazardous materials investigation, discovery, and various remedial actions. Candidates must also be able to foster a positive work environment and have the ability to organize and handle multiple assignments, and manage and work well with other company technical staff or subcontractors as needed. Fieldwork, travel out of state, and periods of overnight stays may be required.
Primary Job Duties:
- Demonstrated experience managing, preparing and conducting Phase I and Phase II ESAs, including conducting fieldwork to completion of technical reports
- Develop remedial action plans or equivalent reports.
- Oversee all levels of field investigations, including oversight of staff conducting the fieldwork and subcontractors.
- Prepare required interim and final reports
Job Qualifications (Education, Experience, and Skills):
- Bachelor’s degree in geology, environmental sciences, natural resources, or related fields. A Master's Degree and a professional registration is preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of hazardous materials-related experience
- OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification required. Nevada Certified Environmental Manager qualification also preferred.
- Must be able to demonstrate technical writing capabilities and good oral communication skills.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines
- Advanced understanding of Word, Excel, or other software necessary to perform work.
- Experience with preparing and managing budgets, and invoicing
- Be able to pass a background check
- Ability to travel with overnight stays. Some out of state travel could also be required.
- Valid Driver's License, with the ability to maintain insurability under the company's insurance carrier

Working Conditions and Environment:
This position will require general supervision and will have to use independent judgment within established guidelines. Generally, uses advanced knowledge to analyze, interpret, or make deductions from varying facts or circumstances. Will need the ability to establish rapport quickly with others working on the same project, and be able to promote a positive team environment. Working knowledge of dealing with a diverse population while using tact, diplomacy, and respect.
