About the Opportunity:
The Advanced Engineering Department at the Amcor Rigid Packaging R&D center develops packaging designs for a wide range of customers across a broad spectrum of industries. Pursuing the concept of completely virtual prototyping, they employ the latest engineering tools in both CAD and CAE to create, virtually test, and refine complex designs. This industry leading capability is backed by custom engineering tools and systems that allow this dedicated team to fine tune packaging to meet performance needs while protecting the environment with the lightest weight containers available.
In this position the Design engineer will support the activities mainly in container design (CAD) but also the application of simulation (FEA) to validate and optimize the design. The candidate will become proficient in and employ a wide range of virtual engineering tools to deliver the optimal designs within time constraints. The candidate is also expected to drive and assist the effort in defining, developing, and streamlining the engineering design workflows & practices from concept to prototype.
In this position, the Designer will receive regular guidance and supervision by manager/senior engineers but is expected to carry out the job duties independently. Specific tasks and limited scope projects will be assigned routinely with clearly defined deliverables and constrains.
Basic Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering discipline in Mechanical, Structural, or Aerospace
- Recommend 5-10 years' experience with a bachelor's degree
- Experience with 3D CAD required; CATIA and CAE software -ABAQUS a plus
- Interest in statistical analysis and experience in automation software a plus
- Working knowledge of SQL databases or Windchill PLM
- Exposure to finite element analysis and structural design
- Good documentation, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
- Self-learning and on-job-learning; can quickly become independent under limited supervision
- Basic understanding of Python and skills in JavaScript Visual Basic a valuable addition.
