Medical Surgical Secretary
DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
- The Receptionist/Secretary is primarily responsible for all receptionist duties in the department and secondarily serves as unit secretary for professional staff and management.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Answers telephone line. Screens calls, forwards calls, takes messages and returns calls for departmental personnel.
- Performs general typing and clerical duties for the department.
- Maintaining, filing and organizing patient records.
- Working with other departments to coordinate care services.
- Managing office and medical supplies for the department.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Two years of secretarial experience, college or technical school preferred.
- Ability to communicate well with patient, family, peers and medical personnel.
- Ability to deal tactfully with all types of telephone callers and visitors.
- Ability to communicate effectively with insurances and other medical offices.
- Advanced computer skills; General office and clerical skills..
Physical Demands/Work Environment
- Work requires a variety of physical activities including sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, lifting and ability to get in and out of a vehicle.
- Must be able to exchange accurate information with patient, family, peers and medical personnel.
- Visual acuity is required for a variety of activities.
