Sanitation Maintenance Worker I

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• As a member of a small crew, perform a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled tasks associated with Sanitation maintenance.

• Operating and/or assisting drivers of automated sanitation vehicles in collections of yard waste, tree trimmings, and bulk furniture, including but not limited to, emptying overloaded containers; rolling cans into position; directing drivers to back safely; picking up debris in, around, and on top of containers and the truck; and ensuring the hopper is properly emptied by cleaning around, in front of and behind the packing blade.

• Assembles, paints and repairs sanitation collection containers, operates light duty automotive equipment to deliver collection containers as assigned.

• Performs minor preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment.

• Participates in employee development and other in-service training and safety courses as assigned.

• Performs after-hours/on-call rotation to respond to emergency requests.

• Keeps simple records of work activities.

• Performs related work as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Graduation from high school and some experience in semi-skilled maintenance, equipment operation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.
• Possession of a valid NC Class C driver’s license.

Possession of or the ability to obtain a NC Class B CDL within 1-year from the date of hire.

• Requires drug testing and background verification including references and criminal record checks prior to employment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Some knowledge of the less complex aspects of maintaining and servicing automotive equipment.
• Some knowledge of the basic safety principles and procedures of automotive equipment operation and maintenance.
• Ability to perform manual laboring tasks for extended periods, sometimes under unfavorable weather conditions.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
