STORMWATER MAINTENANCE WORKER I
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:Performs responsible semi-skilled work in Stormwater maintenance, and maintenance and construction of storm catch basins; Stormwater run-off, Stormwater curbing, and other related duties as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:Employees in this class perform semi-skilled work involving a variety of public works and related tasks. Work involves the use of a variety of tools and light and medium equipment. Work may involve participating in a variety of skilled trades such as carpentry, plumbing, masonry, fencing and other tasks. Work is performed under the immediate supervision of the Stormwater Coordinator and is evaluated through observation and inspection to determine the thoroughness in carrying out assigned duties.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Works on Stormwater crew to maintain cleaning of debris from all streets, curbs and guttering and Stormwater collection basins.
Provides masonry skills to repair, replace or retro fit street curbs, guttering and pre-fab or constructed Stormwater collection grates.
Cleans Stormwater catch basins by motorized equipment or by hand cleaning methods; Digs, repairs or retro fits drainage ditches;
Performs a variety of maintenance tasks such as operating tractors for ditch clearing, operations of heavy-duty street sweeping machines, using power hand equipment; removing leaves and debris, trimming overgrown vegetation from curb lines and clearing limbs and other debris as a result of Stormwater system disruptions;
Operates equipment including Street sweepers, tractors, mowers, dump trucks, loaders and other medium and light duty equipment;
Intake and investigates citizen stormwater inquiries and elicit discharges/illegal dumping;
Handles inspection of stormwater infrastructure systems, stormwater control measures, and erosion controls on active construction sites.
JOB RELA1ED PHYSICAL ACT1VITY REQUIREMENTS:This position involves very heavy work requiring the employee to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and less force frequently to move a variety of objects. Physical activity related to this position may include climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Sufficient visual acuity is required to visually inspect and assemble small parts involved in the operation of machines and determine if small defects are present and use measuring devices. An employee in this position will be exposed to
indoor and outdoor environmental conditions; subject to hazards including work in high and low places, exposure to working mechanical parts, and exposure to chemicals; and subject to extreme heat and cold, noise and vibrations, and working in narrow or close quarters. The worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Working knowledge of the methods and techniques applied in semiskilled trades work; working knowledge of the standard practices, material, tools, and equipment utilized in the area of assigned work; working knowledge of standard hand tools, operation of light equipment utilized in the area of assigned work; working knowledge of standard hand tools, operation of light to medium equipment, and materials used to assigned work; working knowledge of the occupational hazards and applicable safety precautions associated with assigned work; working knowledge of basic carpentry, plumbing, fencing and masonry; ability to work cooperatively as a team member and respond courteously to citizens; ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions.
ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:Graduation from high school or equivalent approved GED. Experience in related street, utility, or Stormwater trades; and equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT Must possess a valid North Carolina Commercial Driver's License. Must possess or have the ability to obtain a NC CDL Drivers license with a tanker endorsement. Must possess or have the ability to obtain the Stormwater SCM Inspection and Maintenance certification.

Pay: $16.38 - $24.57 per hour
