Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren Technical Center three times per week, at minimum or other frequency dictated by the business.
The Role:
Responsible for crashworthiness development of vehicle structure for GM Vehicle Programs. Depending on the candidate’s engineering background, the assignment might involve performing structural crashworthiness or post- crash electrical Integrity (PCEI) evaluations/ development. Lead engineering projects by demonstrating initiative, creativity, independent judgment, and project management throughout the vehicle development process. Provide technical direction while working with multiple functional groups.
What You'll Do:
Understand and apply GM Safety CAE standard work procedures for delivering quality models and simulation results.
Utilize GM Safety CAE standard work procedures for all simulations and assure high quality models.
Use CAE to lead the vehicle design, while balancing all applicable Global Safety Requirements for specific area of responsibility (i.e. Frontal Impacts).
Perform Computer Aided Engineering simulations to evaluate full vehicle crashworthiness performance for high speed Frontal, Side, Rear impacts or Post crash electrical Integrity load cases, restraints balancing/development for Occupant protection, etc. using LS-DYNA software.
Generate feasible and timely vehicle design recommendations and technical solutions to meet Safety Performance targets for the vehicle program as documented in the Vehicle Technical Specifications (VTS).
Balance safety requirements based on the results of crash simulations for the major safety load cases with other performance requirements.
Work with engineering functions, program teams, suppliers, manufacturing and others to implement design changes as required to achieve vehicle performance.
Use advanced CAE tools and methods (DOE/DFSS/MDO) to optimize the structural designs. Improve structural efficiency, achieve improved performance with less mass (topology, shape, weld/adhesive, gauge, lightweight materials, etc.).
Attend post-test teardowns at the Vehicle Proving Grounds to interpret measurements, conduct analysis, and compare CAE to test results.
Work with global teams in a collaborative environment.
Present performance status at appropriate forums on regular basis(Safety PIT, PDT, CIT, QIT).
