Summary of Position: The R&D Product Development Specifications Scientist is responsible for hands-on, day-to-day new Product Specification development, existing Product Specification maintenance and improvement, data collection & analysis and optimization activities for all JBSS product categories. This position will play a key role in ensuring every product launched has detailed specifications. Specifications are robust and build based on relevant data. The individual in this role will also be assigned key customer relationships for specifications and will serve as the JBSS technical liaison to these internal and external customersFunctions of the Position:- Develops product & process specifications and ensures these meet JBSS process capabilities. (30%)
- Manages all JBSS Product Specifications in QAD and Product Vision across all customers and all channels. Manages Product Specifications in customer owned databases where applicable. (20%)
- Develops DOE for new developed product or process, collaborates with Quality for plant trial data collection and statistical spec validations. (10%)
- Assists food scientists on data collection (10%)
- Develops product key attributes, define green, yellow, and red defect descriptions and standards (5%)
- Ensures gold standards specifications are available for First Production Runs. (5%)
- Collaborates with technical services on allergen, Kosher, labeling, and claims issues. (5%)
- Documents JBSS processes and procedures. Updates and maintains R&D records. (5%)
- Participates in JBSS SVA initiatives. (5%)
Education, Experience, and Knowledge:
- Three years of experience in the food industry working in R&D, regulatory and/or quality control.
- Experience with Product Vision and Minitab software is highly desirable.
- Experience in snacks, nut products, and extrusion is preferred.
- Experience inProduct Specifications, sensory evaluation, and data analysis.
- Must be a strong communicator with comprehensive hands-on experience in food manufacturing/operations.
- Bachelor's degree in food science, Food Technology, or other science majors
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations:
- Six Sigma certification is preferred.
- Sensory certification is preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
- Ability to work effectively with others and cross-functional teamwork skills are a must.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.

- Strong statistical analysis skills.
- Strong organizational, data analysis, record keeping, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
