Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks
- Research and develop prior to implementation of the projects, with assistance from the R&D team and supervision from the R&D Supervisor/Manager.
- Making sure the project has the tools needed to execute the project.
- Learning how to create a project schedule, with milestones, due dates and estimates for those materials that are required.
- Helping with the documentation of each phase of the project, as well as making summary reports that will be presented to the R&D project manager.
- Tracking time spent on projects.
- Coordinating with team members of other departments who are working on a team project or facing issues with a project.
- Assist with the evaluation of new technology and determine suitability for large scale production.
- Assist in educating managers/supervisors/staff on new technology prior to implementation, theory, maintenance, quality, safety, and general use.
- Preparing standard operating procedures (SOP) and test methods.
- Ensuring equipment and instrumentation used for research purposes only are properly maintained at a defined frequency of maintenance, repair and documented in the appropriate manner.
- Coordinate with R&D team validation activities and timeline.
- Forwarding completed validation packets to R&D project manager for review prior to forwarding to laboratory director.
- Prepare data files for information technology on new instrumentation to ensure verification/validation of data transfer.
- Assist with troubleshooting.
- Preparation of abstract and poster/presentation as needed.
- Participating in Science Club (ScCl)
o Supporting the Execution and Technical Ability of the Science Club pillars.
o Composing briefs
o Attending and participating in execution, strategic, priority, and science feasibility meetings.
o Taking minutes / preparing agenda for weekly execution meeting
- Travel is expected when funding allows. Local conferences are typically around two to three days in nature and there may be multiple per year. When requested, travel for sales conferences, typically two to three days, may also be required multiple times per year.
Special Position Requirements
Lab positions generally involve handling of biohazardous materials and hazardous substances. This is an in-laboratory position and minimal remote options will be available. Scheduled hours are generally Monday - Friday 7 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., but flexibility is required.
Work Requirements
At times, depending on the needs of the company, department, and project, it may be necessary to work on weekends.
Requirements
- Hold an earned bachelor's degree in one of the chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory/medical technology sciences and have at least six years pertinent analytical, forensic, or clinical laboratory experience; OR master's degree in one of the chemical, physical biological, or clinical laboratory/medical technology sciences and have at least four years pertinent analytical, forensic or clinical laboratory experience.
- Must have 2 years of mass spectrometry experience and be a Certifying Scientist I (CS I) or eligible and qualified within 6 months.
- Preference for 2 years of data review as a CS I and/or 1 year as a Certifying Scientist II (CS 2).
