Summary
The Prevention Research Collaborative at the University of Michigan School of Public Health seeks an experienced and enthusiastic candidate to support Center research operations and grant proposal development. The Prevention Research Collaborative brings together research teams from the CDC-funded Prevention Research Center, Michigan Youth Violence Prevention Center, Healthy Minds Network, Housing and Health Equity Solutions, and several affiliated federally funded research initiatives focusing on school and community based approaches to promoting safe, healthy and equitable communities. The candidate will report to the Managing Director and work closely with the faculty leadership to support ongoing research operations and strategic initiatives. The ideal candidate will thrive in a creative and fast-paced environment, and will bring experience with federal grant writing and submissions, research management and Operations.
About the Department of Health Behavior and Health Education (HBHE):
This position will be based in the Department of Health Behavior and Health Education (HBHE) at the University of Michigan, School of Public Health. Turning theory into research into actionable practice, we develop interventions and innovations that promote health, prevent disease, empower people to manage chronic illness and disabilities, and facilitate collective action for social change. Together, our academic community transforms the theoretical into actionable, the science into the social, applying our knowledge to eliminate health disparities and impact lives for the better.
What You'll Do
  • Support Principal investigators and managing director to develop and submit multiple research proposals per year, including preparation of administrative documents (i.e. budget justifications, facilities, clinical forms, data management plans, etc); as well as support the development of the research narrative, which may include literature reviews and synthesis, reference management, image and document formatting
  • Develop and maintain a library of proposal and budget justification templates, submission documents and guidelines
  • Support internal communication activities including monthly internal newsletter and updates and other cross-project initiatives, documentation and templates for proposals, and other internal project management policies and protocols
  • Track publications and share findings through media channels for faculty and research team
  • Process manuscripts, study protocols and other documentations to meet open access requirements
  • Assist project managers with data sharing and management plans
  • Assist with preparation of manuscripts, presentations, reports and other research dissemination documents
  • Work with project teams to assist with translation and dissemination of research findings on websites and social media and other translation products
  • Participate in DEIJ initiatives in the Collaborative

Skills You Have
Research Area Specialist Senior
  • Master's degree in public health, social work, urban planning, non-profit management or other related field.
  • 5-6 years of experience-in social sciences research team environment
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and submitting federal research grant proposals
  • Excellent writing skills, with demonstrative experience translating and condensing complex information into clear ideas and messages
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage tight timelines and multiple priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and solve problems independently
  • Experience with pre-and post-award grant requirements and reporting
  • Experience and interest in community based participatory research and health equity
  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and justice

Research Area Specialist Intermediate
  • Master's degree in public health, social work, urban planning, non-profit management or other related field.
  • 4-5 years of experience-in social sciences research team environment
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and submitting federal research grant proposals
  • Excellent writing skills, with demonstrative experience translating and condensing complex information into clear ideas and messages
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage tight timelines and multiple priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and solve problems independently
  • Experience with pre-and post-award grant requirements and reporting
  • Experience and interest in community based participatory research and health equity
  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and justice

Underfill Statement
This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. The salary offered will commensurate with level of position. There are two levels possible - Senior and Intermediate
Research Area Specialist Senior (102911): $69,700 - $82,000
  • Master's degree in public health, social work, urban planning, non-profit management or other related field.
  • 5-6 years of experience-in social sciences research team environment

Research Area Specialist Intermediate (102907): $55,000 - $68,000
  • Master's degree in public health, social work, urban planning, non-profit management or other related field.
  • 4-5 years of experience-in social sciences research team environment
