With 170 guestrooms, Kona Kai Resort is home to Vessel Restaurant + Bar, SpaTerre, a marina and a private club, all located just minutes from downtown San Diego.

Job Overview:
The Recreation Manageris a key member of the Rooms Division and is responsible for ensuring a clean, safe, and fun "Sparkle-Ing" environment for our KKR team members and valuable guests in the recreational areas at the resort and marina. The position serves as a key resource for all recreation activities facilitated on the property including the recreation facilities, pools, fitness center, spa and surrounding areas.
Guest and Recreation Service: Develop a "Have Fun," entertaining, and relevant programming.
• Encourage, promote, register, and schedule guests to participate in recreation activities.
• Cultivate a fun and relaxing atmosphere for all KKR valuable guests.
• Promote the rules and regulations of the recreation facilities intended for the safety and welfare of our valuable KKR guests, members and marina tenants.
• Be aware and respond to possible situations where guests are not able to safely participate in an activity.
• Observe activity in the recreational facility and respond appropriately in accordance with local operating procedure in the event of an emergency. • Provide cashier services when working in facilities that include point of sales transactions.
• Assist when hosting private functions within the recreation facilities including group activities, events and fitness classes.
• Maintain recreational facilities, equipment, and supplies.
• Manages pool, fitness, spa and marina areas, including overall maintenance, daily upkeep, and cleanliness.
• Oversee third party businesses relating to recreation and fitness to ensure they are operationally aligned with hotel standards and safety practices.
• Promote and assist with resort club membership programs.
• Responsible for implementing and promoting offerings that are competitive with the market including retail, services, experiences, etc.
• Create interactive kids activities and seasonal events.
• Monitor quality, standards, and meets the expectations of our guests on a daily basis.
• Demonstrates knowledge of job-relevant issues, products, systems, and processes.
• Provides services that are above and beyond for guest satisfaction and retention.
• Encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among the team members.
• Follow all additional duties as assigned by management.

  • Ability to understand and adhere to a budget as it relates to profitability and labor
  • Strong computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office and other related applications or property systems.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to apply them in a dynamic environment.
  • Establish goals and objectives for the recreation department.
  • Well organized, focused and complete all work assigned. • Work cohesively with team members and all departments.
  • Build morale and promote positive team engagement.
  • Follow all appropriate policies and procedures while constantly striving to improve standards of operations.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and write instructions, correspondence, reports, and memos.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and electronically with guests, management, co-workers, members and marina tenants.
  • Ability to effectively present information to team members, management, guests, members, marina tenants and the public in one-on-one and group situations.
  • Ability to identify challenges, collect data, establish facts, and be solution oriented.
  • Ability to understand guest service needs.
