The City of La Habra is conducting a recruitment to fill the position of Senior Recreation Leader - Day Camp Manager in the Recreation Division of the Community Services Department. The Senior Recreation Leader -Day Camp Manager will work approximately 20 to 28 hours per week with the availability to work additional hours.
ABOUT THE DIVISION:
The Recreation Division oversees special events, trips and tours, youth and adult classes, day camp, aquatics, sport facilities, facility reservations, senior programs, teen programs, and supervision of 15 parks, the skateboard park, and two splash pads. We also manage three social media platforms; work very closely with the school districts, business community and non-profit organizations. We pride ourselves by delivering quality programs and great customer service.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
Under the supervision of the Recreation Supervisor and Recreation Manager, the Senior Recreation Leader will assist in the coordination of city-wide recreation programs, special events, excursions, recreation classes, and other recreational activities; and perform other related duties. Must be versatile and able to work various City events as assigned by supervisor, which includes but is not limited to mornings, nights, weekdays, weekends, and holidays This position will be required to work all city special events which includes but not limited to the City of La Habra's Annual 4th of July event and the La Habra Tamale Festival, including some days post and prior to event.
SUMMER HIRING JOB FAIR: Qualified Candidates will be invited to participate in the examination process which will consist of an oral panel interview. The interview will take place at the Summer Hiring Job Fair which is scheduled for Saturday, March 23, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and will take place at City Hall, 110 E. La Habra Blvd., La Habra, CA 90631.
*Candidates may be offered year-round employment dependent upon availability and/or departmental programming needs.
Examples of Duties
(Duties may include, but are not limited to the following):
  • Organizes, promotes, leads, demonstrates, teaches and conducts varied recreational activities.
  • Plans, initiates, organizes and supervises various programs for the city.
  • Ensures that safety precautions are observed and administers emergency first aid.
  • Oversees the use of equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the facilities throughout the day with the use of multiple chemicals, cleaners, and solutions.
  • Purchases equipment/supplies and prepares requisitions.
  • Creates monitors and updates the program budget, and makes budget recommendations.
  • Analyzes programs.
  • Provides information and assistance to customers.
  • Updates social media with program information.
  • Processes registrations through the Activenet software.
  • Serves as a mentor to teen leaders.
  • Drives a city vehicle and tow equipment.
  • Assists in light custodial work.
  • Must be able to work well with others and in a group.
  • Attends and actively participates in weekly staff meetings/development.
  • Assists in scheduling park attendants/recreation leaders.
  • Assists with front desk support, special events and excursions.
  • Assists with promotional materials using social media management and marketing,
  • Advises patrons of regulations governing the use of the recreation facilities.
  • Assists with activity set up.
  • Provides excellent customer service and detailed program information to the general public.
  • Oversees recreation programs and events as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

  • Provide excellent customer service to the Community and to maintain effective relationships with persons of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Write reports and keep records.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Use common sense and problem-solving skills.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience that provides the qualifying knowledge, skills, and abilities. Experience working with the public is required. Experience and/or education working with children are highly desirable.
Must be at least 18 years of age in order to apply. Bilingual is highly desirable.
College classes in recreation education, recreation leadership and/or child development are highly desirable. Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:
Must possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver's license and proof of insurance.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this class, an employee performs moderately heavy work; regularly required to sit, stand, talk and hear both in person and by telephone; and use hands to operate, finger, handle or feel a variety of equipment; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to walk, climb, stoop or bend, push, pull, and lift up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. May be required to work with a variety of chemicals needed for cleaning and sanitizing.
MENTAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this class, the employee is regularly required to work on multiple concurrent tasks with constant interruptions, read and interpret documents and information; use oral communication skills; interact with City staff, elected officials, residents, the general public and others encountered in the course of work, some of whom may be dissatisfied and/or abusive individuals.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is typically performed at indoor and outdoor program sites in seasonal weather conditions. Work may require exposure to noise, dust and dirt. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office, and moderately loud when in the field.

PART-TIME EMPLOYEE PAID SICK LEAVE:
Part-time employees are entitled to use accrued sick leave after 90 days of employment and are only permitted to use 40 hours of accrued sick leave time per year.
