As a Recreation Coordinator I, you will plan, implement, and administer youth and adult recreation and community service programs and activities; assign and oversee staff providing safe and well-managed recreation and community service programs including youth, adult sports, leisure classes, special events, youth camps, and other related City programs; assist with the management of the City's recreation facilities, and provide assistance with marketing and promotion of these and other programs.
Recreation Coordinator I starts the Recreation Coordinator series and performs more routine tasks and duties with supervision and training. Activities at the Arroyo Vista Recreation Center for youth and adult programs such as classes, sports, camp, and special events are the main focus. This position is not overtime exempt. The City has the discretion to make occasional adjustments of the work week, work day or hours for this position to serve the interest of the City's operation and mission.

Essential Functions
- Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, and review the work of staff responsible for leading and tracking recreation and community services programs, adult and youth sports, facilities, teen program, youth day camp, and special events and excursions.
- Provide responsible staff assistance and support to the assigned supervisor.
- Supervise, schedule, and delegate duties to staff; review and process staff time cards; train staff on policies and procedures; train and evaluate staff, umpires, and officials.
- Administer recreation and community services programs; assist with the development and management of instructor contracts; schedule usage of facilities and make park reservations; oversee and process class registrations, payments, insurance policies, deposits, warrants, and refunds; schedule games, practices, classes, and playoffs; prepare instruction manuals, brochures, flyers, and ads; and order required materials, supplies, and awards.
- May assist with oversight for maintenance and repair of recreation facilities and equipment; purchase program supplies and equipment.
- Participate in the selection of temporary and seasonal staff; conduct staff interviews; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline procedures.
- Assist with the preparation and administration of program and division budgets; monitor expenditures; perform accounting for each program area as necessary.
- Schedule, implement, promote, and publicize youth and adult recreation programs and special events; assist with the design, layout, edit, proofread, and write quarterly recreation brochure, sell advertising, write press releases, post and handout flyers.
- Perform miscellaneous duties for the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department; take park reservations.
- May monitor or manage a community services program and site of operation.
- Develop project proposals; conduct program evaluations.
- Prepare analytical and statistical reports on operations and activities.
- Attend and participate in professional group meetings; stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the field of recreation.
- Purchase supplies as needed.
- Serve as emergency response worker as necessary.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Experience, Training, License/Certificate, Working Conditions
Training: Equivalent to an Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in recreation, physical education, leisure studies, sociology, communications, or a related field.
License or Certificate:
- Possession of or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license.
- Possession of or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid CPR and basic first aid certificate.
The City of Moorpark operates most divisions on a 9/80 schedule and offers a comprehensive and generous benefit program. Highlights include the following:
Health, dental, and vision insurance:
- Medical insurance is through California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) which offers PPO and HMO plans. The City pays 90% of the PERS Platinum Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) Health Plan family rate towards whichever plan the employee chooses. An employee may convert up to a maximum of $300 per month of the medical insurance allowance to cash out or deposit in deferred compensation each month if not used for medical insurance cost.
- 100% of dental and vision insurance premiums for employee and dependents is paid by the City.
Supplemental Life Insurance: Employees have the option of increasing their life insurance by purchasing supplemental life through payroll deduction.
Deferred Compensation Saving Plan: 2% of base salary is paid by the City into an employees Deferred Compensation Savings Plan.
Retirement: The City participates in CalPERS to provide retirement benefits for employees. For eligible miscellaneous Classic employees (employees hired before 1/1/13 with a 2% @ 55 formula and no required employee contribution), the City pays 7% of base salary on employees’ CalPERS contribution. For “New” members (employees hired on or after 1/1/13 with a 2% @ 62 formula), the employee contributes 6.75% of salary. The City does not participate in Social Security.
Annual Leave Accrual: Annual leave is accrued based on years of service. Annual Leave accrual rates for Competitive Service Employees begin at 22 days per year and max out at 30 days per year.
City Paid Holidays: 11 ½ paid legal holidays per year.
Remote Work Option: For certain positions where it may be appropriate without diminishing quality of performance or service delivery, remote work arrangements may be set up after six months of on-site work.
Flexible Work Schedule: For certain positions where it may be appropriate without diminishing quality of performance or service delivery, flexible work schedule arrangements may be set up.
Short and Long-Term Disability:100% paid by the City.
Tuition Reimbursement: $1,200 per fiscal year or $6,000 lifetime maximum reimbursement for off-duty, job-related courses. Available funding for the program is subject to the annual fiscal year budget appropriation by the City Council.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP): The City provides a comprehensive Employee Assistance Program for confidential counseling and services to City employees and their immediate families.
Public Transportation Incentive Program: Reimbursement at 50% of actual expense, with a maximum reimbursement of $100 per month as approved by the City Manager.
