Position Title: Receptionist
Location: Chicago, IL
Hours Per Week: 16 hours (Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9am to 5pm, excluding holidays)
JOB SUMMARY:
The Receptionist will positively and professionally represent ELPC to visitors at the ELPC main office and a wide variety of callers. In addition, they will provide administrative support for the ELPC team as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Greet visitors including board members, politicians, coalition members, and other stakeholders, as well as new hires and interns, upon arrival.
- Manage voice mails and answer calls to main telephone line
- Make sure the kitchen, café, conference rooms, and other public areas are neat and tidy – this includes tidying up after events, etc.
- Manage inventory in office supply room, conference rooms, and kitchen
- Maintain office copy machines, scanners, and postage meter
- Create and submit expense reports and timekeeping records, using Microsoft Excel
- Ensure safe handling and timely distribution of incoming mail and packages, as well as efficiently manage outgoing mail and packages.
- Assist with preparation of office space for new hires
- Assist with event planning for new hire lunches, intern summer outings, birthday-anniversary celebrations, and annual gala
- Set up and troubleshoot video conferencing for meetings (training will be provided)
- Provide assistance to the Special Projects Director including:
- planning and preparation of materials for meetings and receptions
- review and update database of Great Lakes experts
- Cover for other positions that have an administrative component, as needed
- May periodically provide assistance to the Legal Support team
Education & Experience (years):
- 2+ years administrative experience in an office environment or other comparable customer focused experience strongly preferred
- Minimum high school diploma required; Associate’s degree preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Professional, upbeat and friendly customer service skills and attitude
- Functional computer skills including Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat
- Keen attention to detail
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Willingness to learn new things and be a team player
- A keen interest in environmental protection and commitment to doing excellent work

Occasional evening and weekend hours may be available during peak times and events.
Compensation:
$21/ hour. While this position is not eligible for most benefits, access to the gym in the building is included.
