Position Summary
The Public Information Associate (Quality & Safety Communications Associate) position will have responsibility to foster cross-functional and system-wide communications to improve quality and safety for staff and patients at UI Health. The associate is skilled in writing, collaboration, and developing and executing strategic messaging campaigns. Manages the writing, editing, and creative strategy for quality and safety-focused content across the organization, and stays abreast of healthcare quality and safety standards.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Department's primary resource for copy writing for quality and safety-targeted communications, including but not limited to the Quality & Safety Transformation, quality best practices, software implementation for process improvement, and real-time reporting for quality and safety issues.
  • Supports quality and safety staff training and education.
  • Serves as department's active liaison with the Chief Quality Officer. Works to improve and expand UI Health quality and safety initiatives. Prepares and presents as-needed reports for managers and leadership.
  • Provides consistent, prescriptive, and frequent communication, which includes but is not limited to email, huddle sheets, internal digital communication channels, and staff education material.
  • Develops and produces and patient safety stories, quality and safety content for UI Health's social media channels, and other quality and Safety Communications for Hospital website and internal promotional channels.
  • Supports Marketing & Strategic Communications leadership on other organizational strategic initiatives as assigned.
  • Other duties as appropriate for a Communications Associate.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

  • Minimum Qualifications
    1. Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, radio/television broadcasting, web/digital media, or a related field.
    2. One (1) year (12 months) of professional work experience in public relations, journalism, social media communications, newspaper reporting, radio/television broadcasting with emphasis on production, or web/digital media.
    3. Demonstrated experience writing for both internal (staff) and external audiences.

    Note: Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of work experience.
    Preferred Qualifications
    1. Demonstrated knowledge of quality and safety in a hospital environment.
    2. Previous experience working in an academic or healthcare setting.
    3. Familiar with project management techniques and best practices.
    4. Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.).
    5. Some working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and preparing image files for web.
