The High Museum of Art's Education Department connects Atlantans with art and ideas to inspire better civic life. We activate the Museum's collection and exhibitions with inclusive learning opportunities, and we collaborate to share creative practices alongside art and artists. Our work cultivates growth through inquiry and strengthens people's connections with themselves, one another, and the wider world. Rooted in the museum's guiding principles-growth, inclusivity, connectivity, collaboration-and the department's educational methods, the Public Programs Intern will support the team with implementation of programs that serve the general public. Working under the supervision of the Coordinator of Public Programs, this intern will learn about:
• program development and implementation (from idea to public delivery)
• skill-building for program logistics
• cultivating and sustaining audience interaction
• negotiating with internal and external collaborators and stakeholders
• researching and creating high-quality programs that engage art and ideas for collective impact
This position pays $15/hr with an expected schedule of 16 to 20 hours a week.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Exercise onsite program implementation (50%)
Build logistical, technical, and research skills (25%)
Represent and negotiate in collaborator and stakeholder meetings (15%)
Research public program best practices in museums, cultural institutions, and other gathering sites (10%)
Qualifications:
- Comfort with interacting with large, diverse groups of people (e.g. our popular High Frequency Friday and Friday Jazz events) and different professions (musicians, vendors, etc.)
- Ability to work Friday nights, third Wednesday of the month, and some weekends.
- Facility with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Detail oriented, organized, and efficient
- Flexible and able to imagine and implement solutions in real-time to resolve problems
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively negotiate and collaborate in a team environment.
- Current college senior, recent college graduate, or graduate student
