SALARY INFORMATION: $30.00 Hourly / Pay Grade K / Job Code HCP092Under limited supervision, the Public Health Program Consultant (Chronic Disease Prevention Specialist) will use evidence-based strategies, best practices, and programs to address the growing burden of chronic diseases and associated risk factors, such as poor nutrition, lack of physical activity, and tobacco use. This position will provide coordination of chronic disease prevention activities utilizing a policy, systems, and environmental change approach and a health equity lens. This position participates in the administration of program grants, contracts, and budgets. Monitors program activities for compliance with state and federal program guidelines. Manages and coordinates Statewide health promotion program and activities at the local level (county-wide) which include chronic disease prevention activities such as tobacco use prevention, increased physical activity, worksite wellness, cardiovascular disease, healthy nutrition, obesity, diabetes, asthma, and other related activities. Implement and manage the Health Promotion Initiative (HPI) operational functions, including but not limited to the development of the annual HPI work plan, reporting requirements, contract management, and grant writing. Develops and implements programs, strategies, and initiatives that are evidence-based strategies and best practices to address the growing burden of chronic diseases and associated risk factors such as poor nutrition, lack of physical activity, and tobacco use. Coordinates multidisciplinary teams to implement and promote active living and active design strategies. Serves as liaison for the HPI, Live Healthy DeKalb Coalition, and the community. Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate books, journals, and other literature, and attending related seminars and conferences. Applies pertinent new knowledge to performance of other responsibilities. Other duties as assigned.Bachelor's degree in a related field and three years' experience performing work related to public health, public policy, or health administration
OR
Master's degree in a related field and one year experience performing work related to area of assignment OR seven years' experience performing work related to area of assignment.
Note: Some positions may require licensure.
Preferred Qualifications: In addition to the minimum qualifications, preference will be given to applicants with a Master's degree in health policy, public health, community engagement, community outreach, or related field and at least one year of experience in public health education. Familiar with evaluation needs assessment, policy development and management, and health equity.NOTE: Thank you for your interest in DCBOH.
