As a Program Specialist within the Injury Prevention Program at the Georgia Department of Public Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.
Job Responsibilities
Job Summary:
The Georgia Department of Public Health is the lead agency entrusted by the people of the state of Georgia with the ultimate responsibility for the health of communities and the entire population.
Under broad supervision, responsible for assessing, planning, and/or coordinating training sessions for an agency. Performs end-to-end learning and development. Evaluates training and learning outcomes in relation to functional and/or technical training activities.
Job Responsibilities:
- Performs job responsibilities with broad supervision.
- Serves as job expert in assigned area.
- This position will provide programmatic fidelity, monitor, and assist as needed with milestone completion, assist with troubleshooting, and assist with collaboration and network building.
- Serve as a statewide resource for minority outreach. Assist with non-English CPS trainings, child safety seat distribution, and support seat check events in the field. The outreach focus will be placed on minority groups to ensure they are aware of the existing programming.
- Provide programmatic oversight to technical assistance and best practice education opportunities to enhance all minority outreach.
- Serve as project or team liaison.
- Works to lead all training development. Includes the development of CEU courses, maintenance of existing programs such as Keeping Kids Safe, CPS Awareness, etc., and distance-learning development (online CEUs, webinars, etc.).
- Compiles reports of findings and submits in appropriate format.
- Assist with administrative development of programmatic reports for internal and external partners.
- Serve as the systems back-up for the Project Manager.
- Coordinates program with other healthcare providers/organizations to promote optimal implementation of program services.
- Working with Regional Coordinators, will assist with offering Keeping Kids Safe hospital program, Power in the Pen and/or mandate training for law enforcement officers, Child Passenger Safety Basic Awareness for fire/EMS, and/or Safely Transporting Pediatric Patients for fire/EMS.
- Monitors, assess, and evaluates program to determine compliance with state and/or federal guidelines and progress in meeting established goals.
- Plans, coordinates, and implements education and training programs within the speciality.
- Working with a team of 2 Regional Coordinators, serve as an Instructor for CPST courses as needed.
- Co-teach CPS workshops engaging other professions including hospital, childcare, and DFCS/Foster Parents as needed.
- Provides technical assistance and advice to develop, implement, and improve programs related to specialty.
- Increase awareness of CPS issues throughout the state by assisting with conference exhibits, presentations, and trainings, as well as statewide opportunities upon request.
- Research and recommend best practices.
- Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in CPS by reading technical reports / updates, books, journals, and other literature and attending related seminars/conferences. Applies pertinent new knowledge to recommended best practices with field work.
**Due to service as a co-Instructor for CPST courses, special needs case evaluation, assistance within assigned regions, and conference attendance, it is anticipated that a minimum of 10% of work time will require overnight travel.**
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED AND Three years of experience providing educational, training or instructional services in functional area.
