Program Description
The Social Services Provider Academy (SSPA) is CCS King County's workforce development program, focusing on helping clients and staff begin and build careers in housing and homelessness services. Programs include an in-house training program that prepares clients for entry-level positions, and certificate programs in partnership with Seattle Central College (for Case Management) and Highline College (for Facilities and Maintenance). Certificates are transferrable to two and four-year degrees. SSPA focuses on students who have experienced barriers to higher education such as racism, poverty, and housing insecurity. SSPA is a partnership of Catholic Community Services (CCS),Seattle Central and Highline Colleges and in community with King County housing and homeless (or human service) providers.
Position Description
This position supports a positive and engaged program culture, and is responsible for the assessment, intake and support of a caseload of up to 60 students per calendar year. Students are clients and direct service employees referred by King County social service agencies. Students may not be high school graduates, may have no college experience, may have a history of homelessness and may be challenged by financial insecurity.
The position networks, communicates and coordinates with multiple players including the SSPA Program Manager, college administrators and instructors, and partner social service organization staff and resource providers. This position evaluates, monitors, and problem-solves around working student needs with the SSPA team and is responsible for thorough, timely case management to support student success.
This is a full-time position with CCS based at CCS headquarters in Seattle with occasional travel within King County to connect with colleges, partner agencies and clients.
Responsibilities
Case Management
Provide accessible and responsive case management services to client and working students. Serve as liaison and first point of contact with the student, college and student-referring organization to positively address student barriers, challenges and needs to support school and work success.
  • Develop and maintain productive professional relationships and case management for a caseload of up to 60 students per calendar year.
  • Develop student-driven college, work and personal life balance success plans. Work closely with college administrators and instructors to monitor and assess individual student progress and provide effective triage, guidance and resources.
  • Work with colleges on registration and enrollment as needed. Provide students with timely counsel and resources related to all aspects of application, enrollment, registration, discontinuance and financial aid.
  • Communicate with student-referring supervisors and approved student networks regarding challenges, barriers and achievement.
  • Work with college administrators to cultivate and maintain positive, connected student cohorts to enhance student support of one another. Produce events and activities as needed.
  • Support students with internships and practicum classes as needed including placement and coordination.
  • Initiate and maintain thorough program recordkeeping and student case notes. Participate in established paperwork and data collection systems that meet SCC and partner organization standards for confidentiality and data completeness. Prepare reports.

Program Outreach and Coordination
Collaborate with colleges and partner organizations on SSPA outreach and marketing. Develop and maintain program marketing materials. Coordinate program outreach and student recruitment. Maintain student referral and application files and support student selection process
  • Initiate, respond and maintain thorough, collaborative communication with colleges and partner organizations from outreach and student referral through program enrollment and completion.
  • Develop effective program marketing materials for distribution to all participating organizations.
  • With colleges, establish annual SSPA calendar and quarterly class information, schedules and resources
  • Conduct positive program outreach with referring student organizations through in-person and electronic communication.
  • Coordinate student selection process with SSPA team.
  • Maintain record keeping processes for selection, enrollment, case management, and program completion. Participate in program evaluation.

General Responsibilities of this position include:

  • Participate in agency advocacy on behalf of the program and students served.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Job Conditions
This position requires the employee to work in an environment where there may be exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious material. Other exposures could include cleaning supplies, chemicals involved in pest control, paint and other materials used in building maintenance. Working conditions may include interruptions, interactions with angry persons, and exposure to computer CRTs.

  • Able to hear telephone rings, phone conversation, doorbells, emergency alarms and face-to-face conversation.

  • Vision that enables person to read normal size print and handwritten notes; and distance and peripheral vision than enables person to monitor large space and identify concerns that require staff response.
  • Mobility/dexterity of hands/arms to enable keying into locked areas as well as using a computer and other office equipment.
  • Able to sit for sustained periods of time.
  • Able to walk the entire building and ascend and descend stairs quickly to move from one floor to another in order to respond to emergency situations.
  • Able to lift, move and/or carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Regularly able to perform duties as assigned.
  • Able to make independent decisions and apply sound judgment in performing job duties.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree, OR any combination of relevant education, training and experience that indicates successful performance of the essential functions of the position.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Outlook, and Word programs, web navigation and research and online virtual meeting platforms
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated awareness, attitude and ability to communicate and work respectfully and effectively with people from diverse racial, ethnic, religious, linguistic, gender, age, sexual orientation and socio-economic backgrounds, and with diverse physical and learning abilities.
  • Demonstrated team-building skills with ability to work independently and with multiple teams.
  • Time management, multitasking, and coordinating work outcomes/activities with multiple program partners.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and issue assessment skills with intervention planning/implementation skills.
  • Experience in college educational settings.
  • Experience navigating financial aid processes.
  • Demonstrated experience handling personally identifiable information (PII).
  • Knowledge of the issues of homelessness and trauma, and the challenges encountered by people experiencing homelessness, poverty and marginalization. General knowledge of support service programs designed to support people in homelessness in King County.
