Pharmacy Director / Pharmacist in Charge
The Pharmacy Director is responsible for direct oversight of One Community Health's retail and clinical pharmacy services. The Pharmacy Director is the acting Pharmacist in Charge for the organization.
Essential Functions:
- Serves as the organization's Pharmacist in Charge and fulfills all responsibilities and requirements as required by the California Board of Pharmacy
- Supervises retail pharmacy staff and clinic-based Clinical Pharmacists, including recruiting, hiring, disciplinary action, scheduling, team-building and performance evaluation; assures all pharmacy staff are appropriately trained and are patient focused
- Collaborates with Pharmacy Operations Director on operational effectiveness and business development opportunities; responsible for co-developing and co-managing the pharmacy budget; responsible for co-developing and co-managing departmental key performance indicators
- Ensures compliance with all licensure, professional practices, policies/procedures, and governing body requirements including, but not limited to, the California State Board of Pharmacy, Drug Enforcement Agency, the Office of Pharmacy Affairs (including 340B Drug Pricing Program); participates in audits as requested
- Serves as subject matter expert for the 340B Program
- Ensures compliance with all contractual requirements of payers including, but not limited to: Medicare, Managed Care Organizations, private insurance, and all federal, state and local government contracts and grants
- Chairs the organization's Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee; assures the committee is well-functioning and effectively supporting clinical care; duties also include researching and providing drug information to medical staff
- Collaborates with OCH leadership, medical staff, and clinic staff to determine needs, resolve problems, improve processes, and promote effective drug therapy
- Provides consultation for patients and staff regarding medication; assures that all other dispensing pharmacists provide regular consultation for patients
- Ensures compliance with wholesale purchasing agreement(s) and maintains close contact with vendor(s) for ordering, inventory and billing purposes
- Evaluates and improves policies and procedures related to the Pharmacy and 340B Program annually
- Works with the Director of Quality to develop and implement regular monitoring of quality indicators and dispensing errors
- Participates in efforts related to revenue cycle, which include but are not limited to: achieving goals for productivity; meeting or exceeding revenue targets; and expense management as budgeted; assists in all financial issues related to pharmacy claim financial reconciliation; participates in inventory audits as requested
- Establish best practice methods of drug distribution and control in retail pharmacy and clinic areas
- Works with vendors to maintain and improve the pharmacy/vendor relationship to remain smart and productive, including developing new vendor relationships as needed to improve and expand pharmacy services
- Precepts Pharmacy residents, Pharmacy students, intern Pharmacists and technician trainees
- Performs other duties as assigned in support of mission and as required to ensure delivery of consistent high-quality service

Education/Experience Required:
- Must be California Pharmacist License eligible and possess a valid license at the time of hire.
- Current California Board of Pharmacy license in good standing.
- Seven or more years' experience in retail pharmacy.
- Five or more years' experience managing retail pharmacy operations.
- Strong understanding of 340B Program
- Knowledge in pharmacy practice and industry best practices in optimizing the use of medication to treat patients.
- Knowledge of all pharmacy federal and state laws and regulations.
- Leadership skills in employee supervision and HR administration to effectively lead and motivate others.
- Conflict resolution skills to resolve personnel issues and counsel assigned staff to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships.
- Ability to promote equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a complex, challenging environment.
- Demonstrate adaptability and flexibility; anticipate and effectively manage change.

- Ability to perform all commonly applicable functions in clinical applications and pharmacy database technology.
- Proficiency with pharmacy management software system/s
- Valid CA Driver's License
Preferred
- Experience working in a community health center.
- Knowledge of specialty medication distribution.
- Experience with pharmacy service delivery and location expansions
