Description
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Pharmacy Director is responsible for directing and operating the pharmacy component of the TMWIHC health care system. Dispenses prescribed pharmaceutical products in our retail pharmacy and sells over-the-counter medicines and related products. The Pharmacy Director will work directly with patients and health care providers to give information and guide patients about the effects of prescription drugs. They also advise on the dosage amounts and potential side effects, and give suggestions on how to plan an effective drug therapy program. The Pharmacy Director reports to the Executive Director. Adherence to protocols will be in accordance with HIPAA regulation requirements.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: (Will include, but not be limited to)
1. Under the direction of the Chief Operations Officer, maintain pharmacy policies and procedures for the pharmacy programs which are in compliance with applicable laws and with clinical objectives and services.
2. Order, inventory, and dispense pharmaceutical items for patients and pharmacy customers.
3. Assist in the implementation of a quality assurance program.
4. Maintain patient profile records, billing data, and other records as required.
5. Provide continuing education to clinic staff and provide patient education as required.
6. Supervise and maintain inventory control system of stock formulary items at all clinic locations.
7. Maintain effective communication with the Chief Operations Officer and Medical Director to assure coordination of pharmacy services with other TMWIHC health care program components.
8. Conduct quarterly inspection of clinic pharmacy site and report in writing twice yearly to the Medical Director on compliance with clinic policies and procedures.
9. Supervise the Pharmacy technicians; assign duties and verify the work performed by support staff. Assure that the quality of professional services is maintained.
10. Train and monitor department staff compliance with OSHA and safety policies.
11. Train and monitor department staff on compliance with HIPPA policies and regulations.
12. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the profession by participation in organization memberships; attendance at meetings, lectures, in-services, seminars; reading journals; comply with National Standards of Continuing Education in order to maintain professional competency and proficiency.
13. Attend team meetings as assigned, such as the monthly Management Team Meeting and CCC conferences with medical providers.
14. Must ensure that the Pharmacy meets all applicable state and local laws and regulations.
15. Work with Finance Director to provide monthly financial data to the Fiscal Department. Assist with finance audits of the pharmacy department and operations.
16. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Licensed as a Pharmacist by the State Board of Pharmacy in California, license must be current with no restrictions.
2. Possession of a Doctor of Pharmacy Degree or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy Degree from an accredited school of pharmacy.
3. Preference will be given to individuals with the ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish, written and verbal.
4. Ability to relate to low-income, minority community members.
5. Valid California Drivers License, proof of personal auto insurance with $100,000/$300,000 bodily injury and $100,000 property damage coverage limits, and personal transportation. Must have a clean driving record and be insurable on the TMWIHC commercial auto insurance policy.
6. Knowledge of pharmacology principles, practices, and techniques.
7. Knowledge of pharmaceuticals to recognize and advise physicians on potential problems.
8. Knowledge of pharmaceuticals to advise patients on measurement and timing of dosages, use of multiple medications and problem side effects.
9. Knowledge of the principles, practices of development and training to conduct in-service programs.
10. Knowledge of medical safety standards to manufacture and work with pharmaceutical substances.
11. Skill in anticipating and reacting calmly to emergency situations.
12. Must have the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; and the ability to follow oral and written instructions. Must possess sufficient written and verbal communication skills to be able to interact with medical professionals, vendors, and agencies in a professional manner, developing rapport and enhancing business relationships.
13. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance.
14. Must have the ability to work in an independent and self-directed manner, assume individual initiative and to exercise good judgment. Must be willing and have the ability to accept supervision and to follow directions.
15. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
16. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply written guidelines.
17. Ability to establish quality control standards.
18. Experience with and the ability to operate Microsoft Office software is required. Experience working with the RPMS computer system is preferred. Must possess skill in using computers and other office equipment; in composing correspondence; managing filing systems; gathering and summarizing information; and in planning, organizing, prioritizing, and executing complicated and continuing assignments. Must have the ability to correctly enter data into computer systems.
19. Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive matters with discretion and tact. Must have knowledge of and the ability to maintain HIPAA privacy requirements.
